My daughter is almost 3 weeks old and I have been BF her so far but the last couple of nights my husband has given her a bottle of SMA first infnat milk at bedtime to let me get a little sleep.

However she has been suffering from trapped wind and crying and crying when she tries to poo since then. Could this be caused by the one bottle of formula and if so what other formula would you recommend? (as I would like her to take at least 1 bottle of formula a day to give me a little rest )

Thanks :flower:

Hey, I'm not going to be a huge help, as I am BF'ing at the moment... But I was just wondering if you'd considered expressing breast milk for your OH to give her at night? That's what we're doing at the moment (I am in the FF forum right now because we're considering mixing breast milk & formula though!!) and it's such a relief because my DH can do the early morning feeds and I haven't had to worry about the potential of upsetting her tummy with the 'wrong' formula yet, iykwim?

Just another option potentially. :) I've been doing quite a bit of research on choosing a formula to mix with breastfeeding and several people have recommended Similac (though as I type I'm wondering whether it's available in the UK....I'm sure I've heard of it before over there!!) either Organic or Sensitive... Think we're going to try the Sensitive...

xx

Some babies don't get on well with SMA - it seems to be they either do or don't! It made my LO very sick, but my friend's baby gets on fine with it.

I've used both Aptimil and Cow & Gate, both were fine for my LO. Aptimil is said to be the closest to breastmilk in terms of what's in it, so you might get on better with that :) It comes in little cartons as well so you can try it out without having to buy a big tub of powder :)

I think from what I've read SMA can cause trapped wind and constipation in alot of babies. Aptamil is supossed to be the formula that is closest to breast milk and easily digested, perhaps you could get a couple of the ready made cartons and try your little one on that to see if it makes a difference :flower:

Another vote for Aptamil. It's said that it's the closest to BM.
