My doctors are absolutely hopeless.. So when I phoned to book a midwife appointment in a few weeks time I was not really surprised when the receptionist was about as helpful as a wet rag! She informed me that the midwife only comes in at 10am on a Wednesday and then leaves at 12.30pm.

I asked her what she suggested as I work in my own business (I run a stud) and have to be at the stables in the morning as horses need doing regardless of the weather etc. She said, "Well can you not just get the time off?" What does she not understand about me having to be there otherwise it does not get done!

So she gave me the number of the community midwife and I phoned only to be greeted by the same amazed reaction. I asked the frequency of the visits and she said that they will need to be fortnightly after 34 weeks. I said there is no way I can be there fortnightly on a wednesday morning due to work. She said to me, "Well, you many not be working at that point." I couldn't stop laughing... I will be working right up until my waters break as the stud needs running and there is no one to do it but myself.

I was just so annoyed at the lack of flexibility... It is no wonder I have not had a midwife appointment yet!
