Ok ladies i give in!

Its taken until 2 weeks ago for our lo to pick up foods and feed herself which we thought at one point she was never going to do!:happydance:

However she still gags over lots of things, she is fine with toast and cheese sticks but give her scrambled egg or fruit/veg or a waffle with the skin still on she will gag. Pasta is a hit or a miss sometimes she will sometimes she wont gag.

I'm hoping this gagging at things sorts itself out but i have people including my mother telling me that if i give her toast and the things she does like and will eat too often im making her a picky eater?!?
She will eat our dinners if they are whizzed up which means they still have lumps in them but she definitely prefers stuff with cheese sauces, garlic and strong flavours and so far hates beef!

Just wondered what others think, am i creating a fussy girl by giving her more of the things she likes?

I do try her with new stuff all the time but i feel in order for her to practice her chewing so as not to gag i need to give her the stuff she enjoys.

Sorry for the long rambling just feeling frustrated!

I think if it was me, I'd give her everything and let her just work her way through it, even if she gags. I don't think she's gagging because she doesn't like something, just because she's still learning how to eat it. More practice is the best thing you can do as long as she's eating something. Maybe try one meal you know she'll eat and then the next meal that day try something new?

Thanks, i try to give 1 new thing a day.

Just worried that as she still hasnt taken to lots of things and that im creating a picky eater for the future!

Mother keeps telling me to be careful!!
I had alot of food issues growing up, fussiness and anorexia so guess that makes me worry more about the whole eating thing!!

hope she becomes more adventurous!!

I think the idea of blw is to follow your babies lead such as putting different foods on her highchair and letting her choose what she wants. I think you'll have more of a battle with her if you make her eat things she might not want/like.

I was a fussy child but was never made to eat anything I didn't like and now I eat lots of the things I wouldn't. Won't have cauliflower which was forced upon me by a friends mum disguised in mash potato. Might be a coincidence but I will never make my lo eat anything he doesn't like x

Oh forgot to mention I agree with pp on the gagging. It will just be the reaction to it hitting the back of her throat. Don't panic and let her try to learn to break it down a bit. She will gag less and less.
