Hi, I thought I'd start with a bit about us first...

My son George Richard was born on Monday morning and so far feeding seems to be going well. They are very supportive of breast feeding here and my midwife is coming to visit daily until the middle of next week, in addition I saw a lactation consultant whilst in hospital and can call her at anytime. However I have a few questions I'd like a "real persons" opinion on.

I was taken to theatre quickly after his birth as my placenta did not come away but he had fed before I went down which was brilliant - he actually latched about 10min after birth :happydance::happydance:

The first few days in hospital he fed every 3-4 hours and in the first couple of days dropped from 3320g to 3070g - as expected.

Since coming home he has continued to feed roughly every 3-4hrs but with a cranky spell most days where he feeds every hour or so. He is pooping like a trooper and it is nice and yellow and peeing well too. His weight was back up to 3190g today :happydance: so I don't have too many real concerns.
Anyway my questions....

He seems to have his fill after 5-10 mins on 1 side and is happy then for a few hours. My midwife said its OK just to do one side per feed as I have plenty of milk - have any of you girls done this so early?

I have a LOT of milk - she has advised manually expressing to remove some and also drinking peppermint tea twice a day to try and reduce it a little - is this likely to store up more problems for me if I later need to increase my supply?

Right now your LOs tummy is super crazy tiny, so it doesn't take long to fill it up. I would do as she says with the hand expressing to give yourself some relief, but I think he will soon be nursing a lot more. So I wouldn't really try to decrease my supply just yet. He is still figuring out that he is no longer on the inside, and recovering from the birth, in the next few days he will probably really start to wake up and eat more and more.

Finn only ever ate off one side. The only time he did was just before I weaned him and he was eating constantly. I also have lots of milk! I didnt do anything about it, it just evened out after awhile. The only time I expressed was if I was engorged and scared of mastitus.
