Thanks all. Kaya started to get sick on thursday night and we were at the out of hours docs on friday, saturday, sunday and monday - when we were finally sent to the hospital. She was really dehydrated and had to be hooked up to an IV for fluids. Her temp got as high as 39.2 degrees at times, but all they could really do was give her fluids and paracetomol as they thought it was a virus. She was throwing up after every feed until tuesday night. They took eye swabs of her conjunctivitis and it showed that she also had a bug - strep b. They were worried about this as it's a really rare bug to get in an older baby, so they decided to do a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis - I didn't go with her for that, made her dad go instead. They started her on antibiotics as well.
This morning the doc told us that she'd been given the wrong results and that Kaya had actually had strep b in her eyes when she was 3 weeks old and got conjunctivitis. This time it was a different bug, but luckily it was the same treatment.
So, she had a virus and an infection at the same time which totally knocked her for six. Today she's been much like her usual self, but a bit cranky and a bit more sleepy.
