I am just now getting around to writing my 2nd son, Kendon,'s birth story! Oh well, better late than never!!

On the night of July 20, 2011 I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I have a home daycare, so there is constant bending over picking up the house type things in my day to day schedule. I had done a lot of bending over that day and figured that was what was causing the pain. I had been have TONS of braxton hicks conractions for a couple of months and had timed them a few tmes, but were never consistent. So the braxton hicks that night really didn't make me think I could be in labor or anything. I slept fine all night long and woke up like normal but was having what I though was constipation cramps (seeing as pregnant people are pretty well ALWAYS constipated) Also, keep in mind, I was induced with my first child and so never had felt what going into labor was like! My husband had left that morning saying , Do not go into labor today! I have to go out of state for work. So naturally, that's when the baby would decide to come! My younger sister had also stayed the night with me the night before, and was getting ready in the bathroom for work when I went into the bathroom and told her I just had a bad feeling . She asked if I wanted her to skip her meeting and stay with me and I said no, b/c i'd feel so stupid if it was just constipation and nothing was actually happening! So she left for work and the parents dropped off their kids like any normal Thursday. I told a couple of the parents I was having some pain and may try to get ahold of my sub to watch the kids so that I could go get checked at my drs office. Well I started trying to get ahold of the doctor and was standing at my kitchen counter when my water broke! I guess that solved that question! I hung up the phone and instead called my husband and my parents and told them to hurry up!! My husband was still 2-3 hours away and by that point my "cramps" contractions were about 2-3minutes apart! I dont really know why looking back , that I panicked so, I guess b/c my family lives 45 minutes away, my husband was hours away, and I had never gone naturally into labor before, I just FREAKED!! I was scheduled for a c-section 5 days later, so I just was hoping to make it to that date, even though I had already started dialating and effacing weeks prior so the dr had warned I may not make it to the C-section date. Anyway, I started calling all the parents to pick up their kids, tried to get ahold of my sub to come watch them so I could get to the hospital, and just kept pacing back and forth on the phone. Meanwhile my poor 2 year old, Kylar, kept wanting me to hold him b/c he was upset seeing mommy like this. He was crying and had no idea what was going on! Finally one of the parents got there to let me leave, I grabbed my bags and drove myself to the hospital!! (We laugh about that now!!) Idk why I couldnt of waited, my sister was on her way from her meeting that she never made it to, to pick up my son Kylar, and I could of waited for her to drive me, but I had this feeling I needed to leave RIGHT then, so driving made the most sense in my disoriented mind!! I parked my car in valet, and checked myself into the labor and delivery! I told them I was scheduled for a c-section! They checked me and I was at a 6 and contractions were 1-2 min apart and getting VERY painful and intense. My sister, mother and mother-in-law all arrived within 30 min of my getting there and held my hand through the awful contractions. Since I was getting a c-section, I couldnt get the epidural yet b/c I wanted the spinal, but they only offer that RIGHT before the surgery! My dr also happened to be on vacation. GREAT timing KENDON! haha! Well her partner happened to be at the hospital already and so they asked if I wanted to try to wait on my husband or have the c-section right then. At that point my husband was still 2 hours away and the baby was pretty close to coming. THere was no way that baby was holding on another 2 hours, so it would be kind of pointless to sit in agony waiting on him when he wouldn't make it in time anyway. So I decided to have the surgery right away. Within a few minutes they wheeled me off and had my mom suite up. I remember thinking they forgot about her bc they were about to open me up before I finally saw her. THe spinal was NOTHING like the epidural. My epidural with my son was very faulty and had not worked properly. With the spinal i felt 0 pain and just like they say, just the pressure, which was not even bad at all, just really strange. But that was only when they were closing me up, when they cut the baby out, I literally felt nothing , did NOT even know they had started, and I was telling my mom I had changed my mind I didnt want to do this anymore! Then they said "here's your baby boy!" and I looked through the little window and COULD NOT believe it! He was sooooo perfect and I will never forget that moment!! He was crying full force and I loved it! Next thing I remember them saying they had to take my ovary... and I wasn't really sure why but I faded out at that point. (Later learned the put me to sleep for that part) When I woke up my mom was not there and they were wheeling me to a room and I remember them hitting the wall with my bed, I had a really crappy nurse through all this and she was less than friendly and it really was not a good memory. But I rememebr them wheeling me in my room past my baby and said that his blood sugar was low and that they had to give him some sugar water and I wasn't allowed to feed him yet. THey had to test his blood sugar again in 30 min and if it was normal at that point, then, I could feed him. I then got to hold him but couldnt nurse. I wasn't in any pain and was still extremely numb. THen his blood sugar was normal and I got to feed him! HE latched right away and was on each side for about 30 minutes!! about half way through his first feeding, in walks daddy and big brother Kylar!!! They sat and watched him eat and when he was done, they both got to hold him! My husband is a United States Marine, and he was deployed to Iraq during our first child's birth, so to miss this one too, was an extreme dissapointment to us both, but mostly to him. He was so looking forward to getting to be there this time.. BUT at least he arrived shortly after. THey both held him for awhile and then they moved me to a different room. The doctor came in and told me that they had had to remove my ovary b/c it had a SCARY cyst on it that had been there since birth based on what type of cyst it was. He said that that ovary has been non functional my whole life! They cyst had fingerlike projections, hair and BONE!! So ya, it had to go!! I'm not upset about loosing the ovary b/c my other one is fine, and apparently it's what made both my babies anyway, so they said it should not affect my fertility at all! Anyways, that's about it, we got to go home 3ish days later and now have a happy 4.5 month old! HE was quite collicy in the beginning, but now is happy as can be, cooing laughing, knocking ice water in my lap and loves his big bubba!! We are still breastfeeding and I want to try to make it at least a year. I will attatch some pictures so that you can see! Thanks for reading!!
