Is anyone else on this or has this? I has my first dose a few hours ago and feel so so awful. I've been prescribed 200mg 3xDay. I don't think I can handle it! Don't know how I'm going to function and look after my toddler.

I was on labetalol well infact only had one dose as i had a reaction to it and they delivered the next day ! However my first pregnancy i was on it too and remember it making me feel awful x

Thanks for you reply x

Was it for high bp or pe? What was your bp. Mine is kicking around 140/90 since I've been on it. Just had second dose!

I was on it for months, and am due to go back on it in the next week, can't say I noticed any symptoms but I had bp of around 145/105 for 6+months even while on 3 meds so I didn't feel great for the whole pregnancy

Hi, I was on this from 30 weeks. It made me feel awful too for up to a week until my body adjusted. Sometimes the morning dose made me feel sick about an hour after even after I adjusted, I found eating little and often and staying hydrated helped x

I was on it during my first preg from around 20 weeks and my second preg right from around 12 weeks. My bp was at 140/90 mostly but I also had some v high readings. 160/105 being the highest. It made me feel awful for about a week until my body adjusted to it. I was also taking 200mg 3x a day. I still self medicate with labetalol twice daily the gp wants me to continue for a couple more mths as my bp hasn'tcome back ddown this time after delivery. X

Hi, i had servere pre eclampsia the first time round and at its highest my bp was 190/140, they put me on labetalol just after i started to have fits !

The second time it was classed as pregnancy induced hypotention as they delivered me at 35 weeks when it was turning into pre e x

Wow that's a lot! I'm taking 100MG once a day. It sure does the trick..how has your BP been? If it's too low they should consider changing your prescription. On 100mg mine has been 117/75.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Bp is around 130/90 now and I'm seeing the consultant again on Thursday.

I read the leaflet that came with the Meds yesterday and if says they usually increase your dose every one or two weeks. And that you shouldn't stop it straight away but reduce gradually back down to none. It also says to not take it while breast feeding. Not a very encouraging leaflet!

Did you guys stop taking it quite soon after you were delivered. And what impact does it have on bf. I'm planing to bf from birth and don't want the labetalol messing that up so I'll discuss stopping the Meds before delivery wit the consultant on Thursday. Xx

That's a good question about BF. I'll have to check. It seems that if it's safe to take during pregnancy, it should be safe while BF too. I mean all of the blood pressure meds are category C so they have unknown risks to the baby. I got put on labetalol as soon as i found out I was pregnant. I was on another type of meds for pre-existing hypertension that was category D, (lisinopril). I'll have to check with my dr at my next appt.

They took me off it about 3 days after birth as it isn't the most effective for controlling bp of all the meds there are, but it is safe. So I was put onto something else for a few months. What the doc told me is that it isn't that it is known to be unsafe, rather they haven't done any tests to find it if it is or isn't as they don't like using pregnant women as guinea pigs.

Dinah, so good to see you here! We are pregnant at the same time again. Sad that I'm looking for hypertension threads again though :( I had a strong reaction to labatelol, I can't remember what they replaced it with. I'm waiting to hear the news that I'll be medicated again tomorrow, just shy of 26 weeks. My bp was great all pregnancy and this last week I could "feel" it raise again,my home machine read 190/115 last night! I think it must have been a bad reading but I'll find out tomorrow at my regular OB appt. the best reading I can get right now is 150/95. Anyhow, hugs to all the moms dealing with hypertension while pregnant, it's pretty scary all over again.

Hugs to you too Dinah, hope your sweet lo is doing well today.

I'm not sure how accurate my home monitor is. I've not gotten a reading much outside of 135/96 at home, but the midwife and the doctor have both gotten it as 135/86 and 126/84 a couple of days apart, which is a reading I'm very happy with as it rose madly in early pregnancy last time so if its still in the 80s at 7 weeks I'll start getting hopeful I'm off to a better start.
