Sorry ladies, for the rather graphic title, but I tried to be descriptive of my question. Have any of you had labor fully initiate without show (bloody or otherwise) or without losing your mucus plug in an obvious or noticeable way?

After 2 weeks of being told to do nothing and cross my legs to keep baby in, I'm now 37+ weeks and my MW has given me the go ahead to return to normalcy. I've had regular contractions for the last couple of days that have sort of stayed steady at about 6 mins apart and not painful but a little uncomfortable involving my groin/pelvis and my back. I keep telling myself that this is just prodromal labor, which I had with first two and will continue as long as it will continue because there are no other signs like show or mucus.

Well, make a long story short, I actually got to thinking about my other two and I don't recall losing my plug or having any noticeable show with either of them. Either it actually happened like that, or I am a completely oblivious observer...:dohh:

Has anyone else had their labor and birth go like that? I'm not really in a hurry and would rather baby stay in a cook a little while longer. But there's also a little part of me that's freaking out as this one is my first homebirth and my MW is 1hr 20 mins away and I want to be sure to give her time to get here. My #1 was 4 cm to on my chest in a little more than 4 hrs and #2 was 4 cm to on my chest in somewhere around 3.5 hrs.

I had no signs at all, no bloody show and no mucus plug. I went to bed feeling a bit nauseous and woke up in labor. There were no signs in the previous weeks or at my previous doctor appointment 3 days before. Looking back, I don't remember anything alerting me to oncoming labor.

With ds I woke in the morning and had my show and had him that afternoon. With dd I had pains like you are describing for aout a week but they kept going, my actual contractions came on at about 4pm and she was born an hour later after only 7mins established labour! It took me by surprise as I was waiting for another sign and we were in the hospital for only 14 minutes before she was born. If you think it may be contractions then call your midwife she will be able to advise.

I did talk with her, we're both positive they're contractions we're just not sure how long the latent/prodromal/early labor will last. She told me to keep an eye for other signs like show, that's what got me thinking about the whole thing!! If my midwife doesn't make it and my husband has to deliver this baby (we live 45 mins out in the country) it might push him over the edge. If he has to deliver it and it's a girl he might give himself a vasectomy...

Haha men hey!! How long are the contractions and how painful are they? I was having the pains for about a week so I hope you LO keeps cooking a bit longer for you. :hugs:

They're not painful at all, uncomfortable and every once in a while they might border on "ouch" a little pulling in the groin/cervix and back ache. They've been steady at 6-8 mins apaert for two days. Same as with both of my girls. Difference was, DD1 this stage went for 3 days, DD2 this stage went for 2 weeks. Gah.

I got contractions approx 5 mins apart and because we don't live near the hospital and it was my first (didn't know what to expect) we went on to hospital even though I was suspicious I'd be sent away. She examined me ( was only 1cm dilated) and it was her that swiped the plug out when doing so, not particularly intentionally, but she said it may speed things up a tiny a bit. An hour later my waters broke. I had meconium in the waters so ended up with an induction to speed it up.

I never lost a mucus plug as far as I know and I only had a little bit of blood once I was already in labour. I had no contractions at all before my waters broke and then when contractions started up, that's when I saw the bit of blood. So I think it's possible.

I had a home birth as well and my midwife didn't show up til I was pushing (she's only 20 minutes away but I never felt like I needed her until I realized the contractions were getting really close together). It was actually lovely to do all that on my own with just my husband. It's always worth just having your midwife on standby and aware of how you're feeling, but I'm sure you'll be fine if it takes her a bit of time to arrive.

Try not to symptom spot but dont ignore them either. If intensity increases and or intervals in between become regular then pick up the phone and let your Dr know you concern. I only lost my plug and had bloody show first pregnancy - my last 5 pregnancies after that-never happened again-In fact after my second daughter - my 3rd and 4th daughters i couldnt even tell i was in labor- 3rd daughter i went to a stress test - and they realized then i was in labor 3 -4 cm dialated- and then with 4th daughter - I was getting dressed to get induced since i was 2 wks over due and I realized my water broke while i was flat ironing my hair lol - induction was scheduled that same day-

My BF had a similar situation and concern since she lives in North Dakota - ALWAYS a blizzard and due in the middle of winter and lives over an hr from base. Well she got there safe and sound thank God and didnt have baby on the way. I think its rare that that actually happens - I could be wrong though. BEST WISHES FOR YOU!! ANy day now!!! :D

I had no signs what so ever, no mucus plug, no contraction, etc and then my waters went!

I didnt have a show or mucus plug. My waters went but at 36 week i thought i just peed myself  so carried on for another 2 hours with more trickles and i thought i had better get checked out. So went to hospital, they checked and told me i was 6cms gone!

I didn't lose my plug until my midwife broke my waters at 7cm! I went into labour on my own and everything, but it had slowed down a bit by that point, hence her breaking them. But no I hadn't lost anything at all before that!

Yep, with both babies. Totally out of the blue. Just woke up with mild labor contractions and had them later that day. No show or mucus plug until right before the pushing stage. Midwife even broke my waters for me at 10cm for the push.

Yes, my second and third I had no show etc prior to labour :)
