I just wanted to share my experience with other first time moms who heard birth is painful and awful. Mine was downright pleasant. Now I know every birth and every woman is different. But in my case everything went right and we had no major complications.
Went to Obgyn Thursday for my 37 wk appt. He said I was 1 cm dilated and would prob go a week early. Well that Saturday at 9am my I sneezed and felt a small gush with each sneeze. I thought it was urine but I collected some in a clear cup. It was amniotic fluid. Clear fluid with no urine smell. Some say it smells like sperm I think it smells like the natural healthy faint vaginal smell. Drove myself to the hospital they confirmed I my water broke. They gave me cervidil to get my cervix opened and planned pitocin. I was having contractions every 3 minutes but they weren't painful. 12 hours later cervix opened and I was on the next stage of labor. They kept putting off pitocin because baby's heart rate was dropping during contractions. I had the epidural before contractions got so bad I wouldn't be able to hold still. That was the worst part. I hate needles. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I slept on and off that night through the intense contractions I couldn't feel. I was only woken to check vitals and to turn over if Baby was distressed. They thought the placents was being squeezed with contractions. At 7:15 am we decided I was dilated enough and baby was down far enough to start pushing on next contraction. My mom was there helping hold my leg and my nurse was an angel. The lighting made the room seem surreal in a relaxing and exciting way. With my nurses help I was able to push the baby out in less than 45 minutes. Daddy cut the cord. He was as born at 7:57 am on June 1st weighing 7 lbs 3 oz. He was 2 weeks early but is perfect and healthy. He breastfed minutes after being born as they were dealing with placenta and stitching me up. Just 2 stitches small tear. I felt zero pain after epidural.
I felt almost no pain in my lady parts at all afterward. Going to the bathroom was a little unpleasant but no big deal. My spine and tailbone were the most sore part of me from epidural. My nurses were all amazing and the lactation specialist taught me more than I've even read online.
All in all It was amazing and I couldn't be happier! So don't stress too much relax and it might be better than you expected.
