First of all i want to dedicate my birth story to the pregnant people in the world with phobias
..You never appreciate your phobias until your faced with them and trying to get by in any situation with phobias is never easy..So this is for you
Im also a tad bit truthful at times, and i mean this unintentionally to scare anyone, but i find entering any situation with a heads up prepares you in some stage
I had a very straight forward pregnancy!, everything was smooth sailing!. I found out i was pregnant 27th September 2011, In all honesty i was absolutely terrified as being pregnant never really appealed to me much!, OH had wanted children for a few years even before we met he wanted kids, me on the other hand was very adamant i wasn't going to reproduce or be forced to!, so when we met i made my intentions very clear on the subject, he was sort of upset when i said i didn't want kids!..But as time went by my decision softened and we began TTC in March 2011 after our first year anniversary. During this journey we suffered 2 chemical pregnancies which knocked us back each time but we got back on track and carried on!..After 1 positive FR i decided to test a digi and got 3+ straight away which put me at 5 weeks or so!..I had to drop out of college, but chose to stay on until 39 weeks pregnant!..Im so glad i did!. All scans, blood tests etc during pregnancy showed we we're expecting a perfectly healthy little man
...It was just a waiting game now!
so..my story begins on Tuesday 5th June 2012 in the early hours of the morning, about 3am. Id been on the forum scowering the overdue club threads and reading in great jealousy as baby after baby was being born and i was left still pregnant and very fed up!, id given up all hope in going into labour naturally and faced up to the fact that in a few hours id be induced!, a feeling of dread passed through me at the thought
. Id just gotten my head down and started to feel these tightenings in my stomach, though very painful they we're still bearable!. I dismissed them as braxton hicks and the fact that i was terrified and tense about the next few hours events!.
But the pains kept getting worse and worse and I didnt want to alarm the OH until I absolutely had to, i managed next to no sleep but gave up by the time 9am got around so decided to get up!..OH then joked i was in labour before being told not to be so stupid..By a snappy old me!
..The pains we're by now intensifying so at 11am OH phoned the birthing unit and they finalised my induction time for 12pm!
Arrived dead on 12pm at the unit, got shown to my own room and got strapped to the monitors..The machine showed i was having contractions but they were very irregular, Sebastian's heart beat kept vanishing but we put that down to him being so active!..My cervix was then checked and i tell you something, during a contraction it is the most painfullest thing ever!!
, i was 2-3cms and my waters we're bulging!, in fact the midwife said she could of broke them there and then but chose to leave them!..So it was good news i didn't have to have the hormone pessary!
..And happiest of all i was able to refuse pain relief as i was finding moving and breathing through the contractions was taking the edge off naturally!, this is where my timing gets a little hazy!
I was then taken to labour suite at around 6pm when there was a bed free for me, the room was great and the midwifes we're wonderful!
, my midwife was called Rachel and she took care of me until 7pm, she broke my waters and it was like a river!..It just felt like going for a big wee
, but it wouldn't stop..At every tightening the waters would cascade off the bed and make lovely huge puddles on the floor!..The poor midwife had to keep changing my bed and pads..She did this over 3 times!
..Eventually my waters did slow down to a trickle and then to nothing and the labour intensified!, unfortunately due to the meconium in my waters i had to be monitored 24/7
which meant no moving around for me!, so my active labour on the birthing ball was out of the window instantly
They checked my temperature and it was slightly raised so they gave me paracetamol and codeine to make me a little more comfortable as the contractions had gotten a little more stronger but we're still irregular!
, I felt like death warmed up as i hadn't eaten since the night before..Im emetophobic and terrified of sick or being sick!..And me being me had been reading other peoples birth stories and had been slightly discouraged from eating when i read other woman often puked during labour
and certain pain reliefs had the same effects, I was checked again and still found to be 3cm!..So in all those hours i had made zero progress even after having my waters broken...I was very pissed off!
, but kept my gutted feelings inside, it was then decided they'd give me the drip to speed up my contractions and regulate them a little more!, but my sceptical feelings we're an omen of things to come.
The night wore on and on, and I had my second load of codeine and paracetamol at around 3am. It took the edge off for a few minutes before the contractions hit back full force!, i found myself screaming and crying!..In my whole labour experience I have learned that not fighting against the pain and remaining calm does sort of help but pain relief is great dont try and be a hero when your suffering big time with the pain!, it doesn't make you any less of a woman for having pain relief!
. The more the drip turned up the more sebastian's heart beat went sparodic!..It was scary as all the consultants came running in and they decided to then turn the drip down and his heart beat then returned to normal, this went on most of the night!
Finally at around 5/6am my doctor arrived and was practically pushing the epidural at me saying id been in labour for more than 24 hours and that although i was coping well she wanted me to be comfortable, by this time i was extremely tired and irritable!, i then decided to just go for it and see what it was like..And its true what they say..You feel nothing from the waste down!..it really is bliss!!
, and in all honesty..No it didn't hurt at all going in, it felt like someone pushing your back and then a bit of pressure and its done!..I managed to doze for a few hours and get my energy back up, little did i know i wouldn't need it!, my doctor had taken blood from Sebastian's head and his blood oxygen came back completely normal
My doctor had gone to talk to the consultants, and had then come back in and told me that it had been more than 24 hours and nothing had changed..My contractions we're still extremely strong but we're irregular still and Sebastian's heart kept disappearing or dropping rapidly, so she then gave me a choice..C-section or continue on for several more hours uncertain of how i'd progress!, i looked at OH who had a very large look of concern on his face before he said..'Its your call', I just wanted my baby and all the pain and suffering to stop, even though i was bloody terrified!
In the end i just ended up signing the consent form and having the c-section. I didn't want to be uncertain about if i progress or id stay the same, at 7:50am the surgeons came to get me and take me to theatre..My epidural was topped up and i got the cold feeling of something running down your back!..I was stripped of all my jewellery and clothing and taken down to theatre!
The surgeons we're lovely and performed my section, In all honesty a c-section feels like a lot of pressure especially up by your ribs..Well, the amount of times i felt like the person was going to break my ribs as she was pressing so hard on them was a few times
!
Eventually after what seemed forever i heard my baby boy cry!
, it was 8:02am on Wednesday 6th June 2012!. He weight 7lb 11oz!
He's absolutely wonderful and everyone just falls in love with him when they hold him!, We did try breast feeding but due to me not producing enough milk he began to get jaundice!
..So had to switch to bottles instead!..But in the day and a half i breast fed i feel i gave my son quite a good head start in life
