Last night i was allover the living room trying to find a comfortable position that i may use for labour....yes i looked like a nutter and id forgotten to shut the curtains....so now my neighbours prob think im mad:haha:

So i cant lay on the bed with my legs open as its too painful...i also cant lay on my side for very long and if bubs got distressed in labour i wouldnt be able to move from that position very quickly so thats out.

I can get on all fours over my birthing ball so would this be a good position?

Im hoping to be at home for this, failing that use the hospital pool as long as they dont try to induce me (which is looking less likely now:happydance:) I think ill move easier in the pool tbh then i can be on all fours or leaning over the side iykwim?

Does anyone with experience of this have any ideas?

Im bricking it tbh this time cos i dont want to have extra pain relief just because of my stupid pelvis:dohh:

i heard a water birth is really good for SPD, i had spd with my first and therefore wanted a waterbirth, but had to get transfered to hospital and had a very medical but good birth.

This time its bad, and teh fact its twins i doubt ill move much by then eck! but again as its twins it needs to be hospital, monitored and prob epi/spinal, not good for spd to all!

Good luck, have you tried a birthing ball? seemed to be ok for me last time, although it did open my pelvis up which is sore, but much more comfortable then other positions.

My SIL gave birth kneeling, not sure if that world work though.

yeah i have a birthing ball and it comfortable just on all fours with ym arms on the ball iykwim? Think that if i cant have a waterbirth then that will be the way to go  xxx

I am definately planning a waterbirth for this very reason... The midwife-led unit at my hospital has plenty of pools and my midwife recomends it. T
BH, I'm now completely terrified at the possibility of being induced, as this will mean I'll have to be consultant led and not be able to have a waterbirth... I honestly don't know how I'll manage without the water... there is no position that doesn't hurt really, I can't stay in any position, sitting, lying or standing long so I'm terrified! I've been going to hydrotherapy sessions for my spd and the water helps sooooo much, so I'm praying I'm not induced... I need a waterbirth!!!!!

id highly reccomend a waterbirth if you can get one, kneeling and leaning forward is a great position for labour and birth,

typically if baby gets distressed the best position is actually on your left side but you will need help to support your right leg in that instance id imagine ( i did with ds2 ) i hope it all goes to plan for all of us

I had severe SPD with my DD and I laboured a lot of the time at home in the bath which really helped...as I'd spent half my pregnancy in the bath as it was the only place I got relief :dohh:

When it came to delivery I ended up (as planned in a MLU) giving birth on my back on the bed which wasn't how I'd envisaged it but I have to be honest and say the pain of labour at that point overtook the pain of the SPD! I had quite a quick delivery though which I like to think was my pay back for having had SPD :happydance:

Hey Caroline! Hydrotherapy sounds amazing, I too only get relief from water now. Can I ask what do you do at these sessions and is it something the Physio arranged for you?

Thanks,

i cant even imagine labour pains being worse than my PGP this time round its honestly that bad!:/ Sooo hoping things go to plan and i get to use the water or i may just loose the will to live :( Im in soooo much pain :(xx

just try to avoid your back esp for PGP its really really not ideal, speaking from experience of the crippling back pain and spasms i suffered for months after ds1 was born

I was given a tens machine from 37 weeks for the remainder of my pregnanyc which was OK, about the only thing that gave me a touch of relief, although I think it may have been distraction rather than anything else :dohh:

Good luck, it's a total nightmare but it will calm down after birth. I think I just got in the 'labouring zone' and thats why the SPD pain became secondary!

Thanks everyone, i really dont remember it causing me pain in my last labour which is strange so i suppose there is a chance that i will forget all about it this time. this time the pain is much worse though and i hear it gets worse with every pregnancy :wacko:xx

Hey Sarah, yes, my physio asked me to come to the session as I was unable to manage the exercise class they send most people too - I went to a few sessions but just couldn't manage half of it... The hydrotherapy sessions are actually run by my physio and consist of basic movement/exercises in the water... oh, and it's lovely warm water in a hydro pool - just like a big bath!!! Sooooo nice! We start off walking forward, sideways and backwards, then do some strengthening and stretching exercises with one of those woggle things and holding on to the rail on the side of the pool, then finish with some relaxing floating... It's so nice to be able to do all those things without the pain! Amazing how the pain just goes in the water!!!!
Speak to your physio and see if they run anything like that there - fingers crossed for you that they do!!!! :hugs:

id say dont worry about it now. whats painful now, might not be when youre in more pain because of labour. I have hypermobility so i get real severe spd, pgp, sacroilliac and spine pain as well as pain in my feet during pregnancy. The pain of labour stopped me even worrying about that lol
