Hi all,

I am planning on making some lactation cookies this next week, just wondered who had tried them and what sort of success (if any) you had?

Thanks :)

I am interested in seeing people opinions as well. I eat lots of oatmeal, but I never tried the cookies.

i made cookies the other day. they included rolled oats, flaxseed, nutrional yeast (i couldnt find brewers yeast, which is different) , and almonds. Did it help? I would say, just a little. I saw a slight increase in my milk supply....maybe about half and ounce on each breast. A good friend of mine had wonderful results from eating lactation cookies but she was taking fenugreek and blessed thristle at the same time also. So I guess it all depends on your body. It is worth giving a shot!

I make and eat a lot. I have twins and they boost my supply when I need to express.
It's a fine balancing act with the brewers yeast - the more you use the more milk but it is a strong flavour. I tend to go over on the flaxseeds and under on the brewers yeast. Holland and Barrett do de bittered b.y. But they are delish!
Btw I cut the sugar way down to save calories.

Thanks ladies, I ordered brewers yeast and flaxseed from holland and Barrett online so just waiting for it to arrive to give it a go. I want to be able to express more, I don't get a lot when I attempt it at the minute so hoping the cookies will help. X

You do need to eat quite a lot ( not that I find it hard!) to start with go easy on the yeast - you can build it up. X

Don't think I'll have a problem with eating a lot! Any advice on amounts of ingredientsto start with?

Not sure the quantities of other ingredients but I would start with no more than 1 tablespoon of brewers yeast per 100 g of butter in your recipe. If you find the taste ok up it next time. I used too much in my first batch and it nearly put me off. The flaxseeds I pour in as the don't effect the flavour and I like the texture they give . I use 3 tablespoons per 100g of butter in the recipe. Good luck xx

Thanks, that's really useful... I'll be giving them a go at some point this week so see how it goes!

Just go with the quantities in recipe for oats otherwise it might dry the mix out. I also modify normal cookies recipes but throwing in the yeast, flax and oats. They are great but my weight isn't really shifting!!!

I've made my first batch, too early to say anything about supply but not overly impressed with the taste at the minute! I used this recipe as seen it on here before:

I'm a bit picky about amounts so I don't like the cups thing but couldn't find a recipe that gave alternatives, any idea how much roughly a cup is (in grams)?!
Oh and I used dark brown sugar, is there a reason the recipes specify brown sugar, could I use white?!

Using white sugar will give it a different flavour. I am not sure about the weight, most ingredients will weigh different amounts. I guess you could take a cup of some of them and weigh them and go from there.

I'll have to see.... I am a fussy mare so might have to alter things slightly!

Get a cup conversion chart online. It's different amounts of grams depending in what it is your are measuring. I did buy a set of baking cups in Poundland!!
I use half brown ( light brown) and half white. Keep going and alter the stuff you don't like. I also cut the amount of sugar in total as I find there is too much. Keep at it! X

I will definitely have to as cant stand the first batch! Going to try again tomorrow by altering the sugar I think... Might use a standard cookie recipe and just add in the extra bits, see how they turn out!!

Haha my husband loves them, think it must be the brewers yeast, smells just like beer which I can't stand but hubby loves! At least they won't go to waste!

Yes I would do a standard cookie recipe and toss in the flaxseed and just 1 table spoon of brewers yeast per 100 ish grams of butter, otherwise it's like beer and tastes nasty!

Hehe that's my next plan I think! Thanks for the tips, onwards and upwards! Maybe it was just the small amount I ate today or pure coincidence but I managed to express more than usual earlier!

I find it successful. I ate quite a few ( horrible batch, they were too dry) but I could hardly walk when I got up this morning !

I put extra chocolate chips and walnuts in mine and they were sooo delicious! I would eat usually 2-3 cookies a day and be able to pump 3 oz from each side AFTER feedings. I probably didn't need to eat more then one or 2 a day but they were really good ;) after making and eating 2 batches I haven't needed them anymore I'm producing more then enough for LO
