I have been lurking on this site for ages and made a few posts, but this is the first time I have actually posted a thread.

DH and I have been TTC for 12 months now. I have had blood tests and an internal scan and DH has had a sperm test. All fine so far and we saw the gynaecologist this morning and he has booked me in for a lap and dye.

In many respects I am happy that things are starting to happen. It sounds weird but in my heart of hearts I feel that there is something wrong with my tubes. I was having reflexology and the lady said that my follopian tube area was very 'poppy' and this area is often quite painful.

Has anyone had a lap and dye? Can you let me know how you got on?

Many thanks.

(I am 34 and DH is 42. I have never been pregnant and DH has never fathered a child. We have been married since July 2008 and he is fantastic - we are so ready to be a family now)

Hi Hun

I had a lap and dye a couple of years ago.

It all went fine for me - I was sick for 24 hours after the anasthetic - but I had no pain and would have felt fine to go back to work the next day - althogouh I took a couple of days off anyway.

However I do know of some girls who were in a bit of pain after theirs so i would definitely recommend taking a few days of sick leave just in case.

In my case all came back clear hun - and like you I really believed they were going to find something - but nothing - so we were diagnosed as unexplained and am now having IVF.

On a good note - my cousin had a lap - they zapped a small area of endometriosis and she got preggers the next month!

Its good you are having the lap and dye hun - it answers so many questions - and whilst bad news is awful (and I really hope you dont have any)- at least it gives you some answers and you can move onto the next stage.

Hope it all goes well for you sweetie.

Hi i have my dye tomorrow so i can tell u about it then..

also had ,my lap in Nov and was told i have severe endo ( never had symptoms) this has blocked one of my tubes so i have now started IVF..

there is a good thread on the home page of LLTC by dancingkaty called 'lap and dye' there is some good stuff on there which will be helpful..

Hi Tateypot,

I had at lap mid December and during that they tied my tubes (i had previous history with damaged tubes.) and its IVF for us now. Starting the process this month so praying for a BFP early March.

The lap is fine, you will be unconfortable after it and my shoulders were killing me from the gas they pump in.
I was in alot of pain for 3 or so days after the lap but I was off work so I took it easy and was fine then. They will give you painkillers to help with the pain too.
Everyone is different and some people are ok the following day, but be prepared to be in a bit of pain.

It is worth it because at least after it, you will know if there is an issue or not and it does ease the mind. And to be getting a lap done after 12months ttc is really good - some places make you wait until you have been ttc for 2 years before they do any investigations.

I will have my fx for you.

x :)

Hi. I had a lap a year ago november. I had never tried to conceive, i did have 1 miscarriage before. I had irregular period and was sent for scan. the scan showed both tubes had fluid in. So was sent for a lap and dye. I had to stay in the night before and then as i didnt go down till 4pm the night after as well. Although thats just this hoispital. maybe different. The whole thing took less than an hour. I leaked blue dye for a bit after but had stopped by time went home. I was ina lot of pain. I couldnt move for a week. the scar didnt hurt but the area between where they put dye and camara did. I was advised to take 2 weeks off and needed it. I didnt bleed after either. I found out i had pcos and that both my tubes where blocked completly. They said i would never conceive and i went on ivf waiting list. We decided to stop using protection as i needed in my mind to no i had tried. Less than 6 months later i conceived naturally (No ectopic) I have no idea how or why but wonder if the dye cleared my tube(s). But i would recomend it to anyway. It can freashen your tubes up or hilight any other problems. I had my results the nect day. My gyno was evil and made me cry but i love her now lol

Good luck

Thanks so much for the replies ladies. Sorry I haven't replied sooner but the bad weather is playing havoc with my internet connection. It is a relief to know that I will have some answers from which we can move forward.
I will keep you updated and thanks again - so helpful to get some feedback. We are keeping the whole TTC thing quite private so not too many people to talk to.

I had a Lap & Dye in September for investigation into fertility after ttc for 2+years, everything came back fine. I had alot of pain with it and a bit of bleeding but the Surgeon said they struggled getting the camera in! So maybe that is why i was in alot of pain as they were probaly tugging at my stomach! On a good note I must have conceived pratically within 2 weeks after!!! sadly it ended in miscarriage but fingers crossed you will have a positive outcome and conceive straight away and have a healthy pregnancy! Ive spoke to a few people about Lap & Dyes and alot of women get pregnant after the procedure asi its is said to "flush" your tubes out and get rid of any crap! Fingers crossed for you Hun, hope it all goes well :HUGS: xxxx

Thanks for this! So very sorry about your m/c.

Hopefully the op won't be too painful. I have been given the date of 8th March for the op, but have said I could go in earlier if there is a cancellation.

Thanks for all the support ladies - much appreciated!

Good luck with the op! great news you dont have too long to wait!! Fingers crossed for you x

Thanks Bumpyboo. Ovulating at the mo so hoping and praying we get our BFP before then xxx
PS Keeping everything crossed (except my legs - ha ha!!!)

I just had a lap and dye in august of this year. It sucked for a few days after the surgury but all in all wasnt that bad. The first week i was a little sore and after that i was okay. I only experienced belly button tenderness for a few weeks after that but it was totally bearable.
