hey....ive got a lap & dye booked for next wed & im starting to really worry about it. So scared bout the procedure & also worried what they will find, i have many symptoms of endometriosis :( What will i need to take to the hospital with me? im just a day patient so not staying over the night. What will i wear during the op?? sounds silly question i know, will it be 1 of those hospital gowns?? do i wear those hospital socks too?? dvt ones?? ive never had an op b4 ( well only the one where they removed my right ovary but i was only 2 days old!!) any advice & tips are very welcome please!!

Hi please dont worry you will be fine. how exciting , at leats you will know the outcome and what your next steps are.
You will need a dressing gown. As you will need to walk from your room to the theatre, if you dont have one you will wear another theatre gown so dont worry. i didnt have one.

You will wear the theatre gown during the op but to be honest it will probably come off during the procedure.
Take your laptop, magazines etc to keep you occupied whilst you wait. I was 3 rd on the list and waitied about 2hours

When you wake up he will tell you what he found. thats when i was told i had endo :(

good luck xx

so you didnt have to wear those funny long socks?? do you mind me asking if they removed the endo there & then?? what are your next steps?? how was ur recovery time?xx

yes i did wear the socks, but dont remember much about that
Yes they removed as much as they could but my tube was stuck to my bowel so he seperated as much as he could. left tube also blocked
as 1m 39 he suggested IVF due to the tube, so im half way thru my ivf now
Recovery time was about 10 days due to the extra stuff they did with the bowel but if you are having lap only maybe a week is ok.

I was totally shocked and it took my ages to get over it but i have accepted it now and hope ivf works xx

I had to stay in the night before and the night after. The reason for the night after was because they were delayed taking me down. Although unlikely that you will have to stay in as well, prepare just incase. It is unlilely though. I didint have to wear the socks. I was out for less than an hour. They didint need to remove anything for me but i have heard that they sometimes do. Just take a nightgown with you to wear over the hospital gown and your slippers. Recovered in about 10 days. I was told my tubes where blocked and that i would never conceive. Im over 34 weeks now

It took about 4 months, although i had pcos and only had couple of periods.. But we where not trying, just not preventing either as generally didnt think we could. We where on list for ivf and where litterally told we cant conceive. The consultant who told me this will be delivering my baby in just over 4 weeks. Werid what happens. Lots of luck to you xx

Hi Dancing Katy

I just thought I'd share my experience with you. I had a lap and dye just over a week ago. I was also extremely anxious as it was my first ever surgical procedure. I've got to say I was so well looked after and am almost 100% recovered now. It was sore for a few days but nothing that painkillers and a stint on the sofa didn't sort out.

Try not to be too worried. It was a big decision for me but I'm glad I did it. I now know that there's nothing wrong with my tubes and I don't have endo. We're carrying on TTC naturally for a few months and then expect to be starting IUI. It's been a positive step on a long journey.

I would take some slippers, your own sanitary towels as you do bleed a little afterwards and comfy trousers for when you go home.

Fingers crossed for you

hi babymaybe....thank you for your reply .....

glad u are recovering well, you have put my mind at ease a little thank you :) I feel a bit silly moaning about ttc for 18 mths now hearing you have been ttc for 36!! you really inspire me, you obviously dont let things get to you & must be such a strong person....i feel so sad that we havent conceived yet....how do you carry on??? last night my dh said oh its just never gonna happen, whats the point in taking all these pills & not having hot baths & not eating & drinking the things we want to...i got really upset. I felt like saying at least ur not going under the knife!!! im petrified, i hate the thought of my legs being in the air & being naked!! i know they must see it all the time, i just hate the thought of it lol!...x

Hi, When i had my lap & Dye i had to stop in over night as the anasthetic didnt agree with me so i was being sick. So i would advise that you took overnight stuff just incase...fingers crossed you wont need it!!

DancingKaty ----------thinking about you - how did it go?!?!?

aww thanks blue12....it went really well!!! have no endo...he said all looks really healthy in there :) apparently i have a very high chance of conceiving over the next few mths as had fallopian tube flushed too....due to ovulatethis sun/mon so will def be trying dtd or using the needless syringe i got lol!!!

not in too much pain really, just where the excess gas is my diagram and shoulders hurt..the actual wounds dont hurt! felt so sick leaving hosp last night...didnt get home til 10pm as i kept trying to get ready and then had to keep laying dwn on my hosp bed again as kept coming over really dizzy and hot!! then i waited in the lounge area of the hosp while dh brought the car to the hosp entrance and how embarrassing i was sick all over their sofa!!!!!!!!! sooo much liquid came out and went in but straight out kinda bounced out of the bowl thing they give you when feeling sick!!!!!! the nurse came over and said did i wanna stay the night i was like no im fine thanks!! really wanted to just get home!! dh is a major car fan & i couldnt help but laugh ( which then hurt my tummy!!) when he said 'im so glad u was sick there and not in my new car!!' cheeky hey!!!

hoping we all get our bfp's real soon!!

Glad it all went ok!! Lots of babydust ur way xx

Hi - Im so glad you dont have Endo - it makes me feel a little bit more positive for myself too. I really hope you get your BFP this month now that the tubes have been flushed out - why did they flush them out anyway? was there a blockage or does that just happen to us all? Im interested to find out about that!

Well I started acupuncture last week to see if that helps with the brown discharge b4 and after periods - Im taking some chinese herbs too. I feel positive so I hope that helps. It would be great to see a BFP for once in my life....

phew! Glad all well hun. It appears some people get sick and some don't i know i had some anti-sickness drug injected and i wasn't sick at all! Or maybe just lucky....

i was really suprised when i was told i didnt have endo...its weird coz obviously im glad i havent but then in a way if they had of found endo at least i would have an explanation as to y we arent conceiving....we are still in the unexplained category & its annoying! think i might book an appointment with the fertility center round the corner from us who we registered with in dec.....want to go ahead with iui now we know i have no endo. dont have a clue how long it will take to get the ball rolling....i know when we registered the nurse said we would need a few bloodtests done to check for hiv & another up to date sperm test would need to be done....will be getting them done at our docs free tho..not paying £150 for a sperm test to be done there!!

my surgeon said i may just as well have my fallopian tube flushed while i was having the lap done...its just to check the tube is def open & not blocked....which it was open, the dye came spilling out :) im hoping this will help me conceive this mth...but then i think i had a hycosy ( which is just the tube flushed with dye) in sept & i didnt conceive after then, but then i am on clomid now & i wasnt then so my fingers & toes are all crossed for this mth!!

good luck with the acupuncture... i have heard so many success stories using this method....my mums friend had a daughter & was told she could never conceive again .....20 years later she had acupuncture to help with a sleeping disorder she has ( she falls asleep all the time) & she fell preg after only a few acupuncture lessons!!! she wasnt even trying to get preg as she was now in her 40's!! im glad u are feeling more positive...i really think that helps with ttc....xxx

Really glad it went so well for you - bet you're wondering why you were worrying so much. I know I did!!

Good luck
xx
