Hi

We've been ttc for 3 yrs. Had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy done just over 3 weeks ago. Turns out one of my Fallopian tubes is no longer attached due to a problem during a previous c section. I'm furious.
AF is now late, I don't know if that's just due to the operation. I'm lost and broken and I can't test anymore, it hurts too much. I'm terrified we're going to be told IVF is our only option at our next fertility appt.

I'm so sorry you got such bad news after your lap. That must have been quite a shock. :( The good news is that as long as your other tube is working you shouldn't need ivf just because your other tube is not working. Research is clear that having just one tube doesn't decrease your chances of conceiving compared to women with two tubes. No matter what side you ovulate from, either tube can pick up the egg.

If you need IVF it will be for some other reason. Since you've had two children already I would think it would be unlikely ivf would be your only option.

There's a huge question mark hanging over my other tube, dr said there may be a small bulge but she's unsure as I've had a couple of early losses. I'm not sure if the last loss may have caused some scarring in my remaining tube. We've been trying for 3 yrs and no baby, so there is obviously something wrong.

I have fingers crossed for you that your remaining tube is still functional! :dust:

Thanks! I hope so too, it will make everything a lot simpler hopefully.

So sorry this happened to you and you had to find out about the tube not being connected. How aweful. Hugs. I had one tube removed that couldn't be saved after an ectopic and unfortunately the other one has scar tissue causing a blockage. It sucked to be told we had to do IVF. It really did.

Really hope that doesn't happen to you. But if it does you can get through it and hopefully find the best option for you. We initially didn't think we'd pursue IVF but have found the process to be not nearly as bad as we thought.

IVF is crazy expensive, I could handle it if I knew there was a baby at the end. I'm so used to disappointment every month, I can't imagine the outcome being anything other than negative. Adding the huge financial burden, on top of the disappointment, I'm not sure I can handle that.

It's definetly not for everyone and it is expensive. We didn't think we could afford it either but we got a loan and just look at it similar to a car payment now. If your only issue is your tubes though your odds are much better than a lot of the quoted stats.

Anyway hope it doesn't come to that. No one wants to have to do IVF. But even though it's not ideal it is still an option if you get bad news so try not to lose all your hope.

I blaim my doctors for my issues now partly because my ectopic was made worse by being sent home from the hospital after my tube already ruptured and then ignoring some ominous signs because I trusted the doctor. That likely made the scar tissue worse. So I know it does suck. And I hold a lot of anger because of it as well and that happened 7 years ago.

Oh gosh that's awful! We were just told "some tissue was cut and repaired near your right ovary" I just assumed it was adhesions or something, never questioned it, I trusted them. I only found out a few weeks ago what they actually did! I'm furious. 3 yrs ttc, I would have got help a lot sooner if I'd known.

I also have "ballooning" around the top of my cervix and lower uterus, I have no idea what that means. I guess I'll find out on Monday. They went in looking for a c section scar defect, so maybe it's related to that, I have extended bleeding and spotting after AF, and we thought that was why we weren't getting pregnant.

I'm feeling so lost and confused.

I see your ER is today/tomorrow (I'm in NZ and get confused with the time differences)! Good luck! Xxx

Low_bird that's awful. The least they can do is pay for your Ivf if it was their mistake.

Low_bird. That is awful and I'm so sorry you had that happen to you and to remain in the dark for so long. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way not to trust doctors either. It sucks so I'm so very sorry you are having to go through this.

Not sure what the ballooning could be from. Have they given you any idea? They were concerned about fluids causing my blockage in the tube at one point but not sure if it could be fluids near the cervix or lower uterus. Really hope they can do some more investigating and give you some answers. They definetly owe you that.

And yes my egg retrieval is tomorrow. Thank you. Everything is looking pretty promising so far. We won't transfer anything until September though so testing can be done. Have a bit of a wait until then.

I hope your ER went well bronte.

I saw the fertility Dr today, he's one of the top specialists in the country, our options are limited. He thinks IVF is our option, and anything else would be a waste of time and money. He will support our ACC claim for them to fund the IVF though, which is good. (I'm in New Zealand, you can't sue here, but we have accident claim compensation which cover all medical costs for any accidents. Treatment injury comes under ACC)

The ballooning could be from my 2nd c section, and could be what's causing irregular bleeding etc.

That is wonderful news that he will support an accident claim compensation. Sorry you need IVF, but at least it's a positive that you won't be stuck with the bill after it. That would add more insult to injury.

Are you thinking of proceeding with it?

So happy that you can get your IVF paid for! Wow, that's a much simpler process than here in the USA. I hate that you had to go through the stress of 3 years of TTC, but all well that ends with a baby in your arms.

Yes, I think we'll go ahead, we don't know if it will be paid for, but hubby just got a promotion at work so we'll apply for a medical loan and hope the claim repays us.

I'm terrified of starting! We found out that my right tube (the good one) was tethered and they freed it, so we're giving it a couple of months before we start the IVF ball rolling.

So sorry to see your first IVF cycle didn't go well. I hope you get some answers xxx

So excited they were able to free the right tube. Hopefully that does the trick!

Yes, I'm upset about this cycle as well. It is what it is. I just really hope they make some much needed adjustments and the next one works.
