Hi everyone

After 1 year of NTNP and 1 year of actively trying, with no luck whatsover, I eventually went for my HSG. I had been putting it off for months thinking that it would come back clear like all my other fertility tests.

How wrong I was! The HSG showed that BOTH of my tubes are partially blocked at either end. I now have to go for a laparoscopy to have a closer look and clear any blockages. But it is under general anaethetic and am a bit worried about the whole thing tbh. I was just wondering if anyone had been through the same thing? And has anyone successfully got a bfp after having their tubes cleared?

Am gutted that my bfp is now potentially months off, instead of just round the corner like I thought (tho not sure why). And to make it worse, my friend is organising a big get together where everyone has a baby apart from us. With this latest news, I really don't think I can put a brave face on any more.

Gutted.

i had a lap about 8/9 yrs ago it was fine just a bit uncomfortable afterwards,i wasnt ttc at the time but when i started trying with my youngest i fell pg in my 2nd cycle

I had a lap about 3/4 years ago. I was terrified of the whole experience (they were looking for endo) but I was fine after it. I was a little sore and uncomfy for a few days after but I have been ok ever since.

Good luck xoxo

I have had a few laps and they were all fine, just felt a bit sore and bloated for a few days. Good luck with it all hunni xx

Hi, I had a Lap & Dye nearly a year ago. I too was very scared but now lookin back i dont know what i was scared at. Luckily my tubes werent blocked, although i put money on it that it helped me to get pregnant!! Maybe i did have abit of blockage and the dye "flushed" it out. As i conceived DAYS after the lap after trying for nearly 2 years. Sadly it did end in miscarriage but it just seemed strange that after 2 years nothing had hapened then i have the op and wam im pregnant!! You havent said if your having the dye aswell?? As for the op, afterwards i was a bit tender and sore but after a few days felt fine!! Good luck for your op! x

Hi.

I had a lap done about 6/7 years ago (wasn't TTC at the time, I was 16!) But apart from being a sore and bloated for about a week its fine. Tiny little scar in your belly button that you cant really see x x

Hi, I had a lap & dye test just over 3 weeks ago.

I too was abit worried but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I did have an awful reaction to the anaesthetic so had to stay in over night, but that wasn't related to the lap. More just my body!

For me, they made 2 small incisions, one in my belly button and the other on the left of my abdomen. I'm sure they've probably explained all of this to you but I'll write my experience anyway! They pump you with carbon dioxide to inflate your abdomen then insert a camera and any necessary instruments though the other incision. From there they'll be able to see if there are any problems and hopefully fix them while they're there. For me, they found I had enlarged ovaries which were covered with a thick layering. They performed ovarian drilling which involved drilling through this layer and also drilling the cysts which were trapped underneath (I have pcos.) They injected a dye through my cervix to check if it flowed through my tubes, which it did. My wee was blue for a couple of days afterwards due to the dye :haha:

Afterwards I felt ok, a little tender but the painkillers took the edge off. For the few days which followed I felt uncomfortable/in pain due to the trapped gas inside me. It sat in my ribcage and if I was upright, it rose to my shoulders. But this eased after a few days.

My prognosis was that the holes which they drilled into my ovaries will heal within 2 months, so they told me that the next 2 months are crucial in ttc. If I hadn't had the lap I wouldn't of had a chance, so it's worth it for me!

And 2 days ago I had my first ever positive on an ovulation test - after ttc for 20 months! So I'd say it's worth a try, it just may have worked for me.

I'm sorry for going on, but I thought it might help to hear others experiences.

Good luck x

hi,
i had a lap in June (but no dye)
they were trying to diagnose my painful heavy irregular periods. A scan showed i had a large cyst on my ovary but when they did the lap my ovary was stuck to my birth canal by endometriosis. they got rid of the endo and said everything should be ok now, we have been TTC for 2 cycles since the op. Its nothing to worry about, 2 really tiny incisions and disolveable stitches. Like the other ladies have said a bit uncomfortable for a few days, but nothing too bad.
im so glad i had the op because going off the scan alone they diagnosed PCOS which i dont have.
Good luck
xx

I agree with the other ladies. It's nothing to worry about and it is a bit uncomfortable for a few days afterwards. I have had three laps now to treat my endo and each time I had referred pain in my shoulders (the worst bit, in my opinion). However, I'd recommend peppermint tea or peppermint capsules afterwards as they help you to pass the trapped wind (in a non-embarrassing way, if I remember!)

I've also heard good things about fertility after laps although I can't comment as I wasn't TTC when I had mine!

Good luck, although I'm sure you will be fine and won't need it!

I just thought I would tell you that I had a lap last year and this summer (july 1st). My first cycle TTC after my lap got us our BFP. We just got it Friday. I had severe endo on my uterus. My first surgery I had endo on my tubes. So It is possible to get a BFP right after surgery. Keep your head up...it will be worth it!

I had a lap on May 1st of this year. I had 3 cysts removed from one ovary and a tumor (benign) removed from the other. I also had mild endo which they zapped away as well. The worst part for me was the gas that was trapped afterwards - which they didn't warn me about. My should pain was really bad due to the gas. It did eventually go away though and the doc said there should be no reason that I shouldn't be able to get preg. Unfortunately it's still not happened and we're on 4 months of ttc since then. Here's hoping for a BFP this month! Best of luck with your surgery x

Thanks everyone for your replies - I feel a lot better knowing that it won't be too painful and may even make me super-fertile afterwards. Heck - I'm almost looking forward to it now!!

Just hope a bfp follows soon after . . . . am v sick of waiting!!

Baby dust to all

xxxxx

Hi All

My name is Ren and I have been TTC since Apr 2002. No joy no luck...I am a large girl but so many women have children although I know that being overweight doesnt help. After struggling and convincing my DR, they referred me to the fertility clinic at my local hospital...been going on for nearly 3 yrs...until I was told to go for the Ovarian Drilling although theres a high chance it wouldnt work because of my size. Having said that, I still went ahead with it and this done on Wed 16th Mar 2011. I was waiting for the worse news that it had failed and that something was wrong...BUT to my surprise, the dr's came in and said that the op was successful. They found a few cysts and managed to get to my ovaries to drill them. No complications nothing i was over the moon. BUT now what...?? they checked me thoroughly and everything is fine my womb uterus tubes the lot....but i have not been given any details now as to what to do or go or what to expect and no follow up appointments...nothing. I am bleeding very slightly and am in pain from the internal work they have done and hope it calms down soon. Does anyone know what happens now....surely I cant start trying straight away as it would kill me....do I wait till a period comes on or??? I am very confused and hope someone can help me and possibly send me BABYDUST as I am sooo desperate to have a child....I have been told this is the end for me now...as the DR will not do anymore because of my weight but I can not lose it...
has anyone conceived from OD who is overweight??? any stories???
Pls share...oh and I have no idea what abbreviations get used here...When do you start trying again....I am still bleeding 3 days after the op....not sure and worried!!!

Hi Ren, after my ovarian drilling I had a heavy bleed a few days later which lasted about 3 days. We started ttc again 8 days after surgery, I was a little tender but wanted to give it our best shot!

I didn't have an appointment with my consultant until 3 months after my op, I thought that was a long time to wait but seems to be standard procedure..

I conceived 3 months after the op, but sadly miscarried. I then fell pregnant again just 7 weeks later. I'm not currently overweight but do battle with my weight, we were ttc for over 2 years when we got our bfp.

There is still hope for you, let yourself recover for a few more days and as soon as you feel ready go for it! Make the most of the chance.

I wish you lots of luck, and am sending you lots of babydust :dust:

Your very sweet thank you and I am soo happy for your Positive outcome too although after heart ache xx wishing you all the best xx i have been told i will not have a post op appt....so i guess i just have to plod through it myself....sounds silly but i have been bleeding since the op (wed) and did a ov kit yesterday and obviously it was - tive....i think i am trying so hard as weve been trying for nrly 9yrs....heartbreak it is.......but as soon as i stop bleeding and feel ok, do you think i should only try when i get a postiive ov kit result or just go for it....im not how this all works...but i prob get so tired in a few days that this is prob when the ovulation may happen...im so niave to this all :o(
