Hi ladies,

At my 20 week scan yesterday I wa told that the babys abdomen wa measuring a little big but they didn't tell me why this could be and haven't mentioned keeping an eye on it so I'm unsure as to what this means. Ha anyone else ever experienced this?

I was also told that I have a posterior abutting os which means my placenta is low lying and I have to go back at 34 weeks for another scan to see if it has moved, if it hasn't I will be booked in for a c section 

ive just read a couple of things on this. It could just be that baby had swallowed lots of fluid and hadnt passed it by the time of your scan?? im sure it will be fine if they didnt mention checking it again

They did check the bladder and said it was empty at the time so I don't know what to think :(

It could be a sign of gestational diabetes. Babies from mothers with not tightly controlled GD tend to have larger shoulders and tummies. If they're not overly worried about it, though, the measurement may not be that far ahead. Ask your doctor/midwife if you're concerned!

If you want call your doctors office and ask them. But im sure they wouldve said something if it was serious. At 16 weeks doctor mentioned baby was big (abdomen) and we would keep an eye on it. Appointment at 19 weeks showed baby in all aspects is almost double in size :( measuring ahead. So on monday I have to go for the glucose test for gestational diabetes :( Im just hoping he is a big baby like his daddy was!

I saw my midwife later in the afternoon, she looked at the graph and just said 'oh the abdomen is measuring a little big but that's ok' she didn't say anything else about it, I'm confused 

I just had my scan yesterday and I noticed in my report that my baby's tummy is just past the 95 percentile. I'm not really worried since the Professor never even mentioned it. I did have GD with my first 2 babies and that was my first thought with this. I have a GTT at the end of the month.

Everything else looked perfect on the baby. I think if your Dr didn't say much about it, I wouldn't worry..or at least try not to hun.

Here are my measurements:

Bpd: 47.5mm

Fl: 34.0mm

Hc: 177.0mm

Ac: 171.0mm

I wouldn't worry too much tbh my 2nd baby had a large tummy measuring over 200mm at our 20 wk scan an all was fine he was just a big baby

With this baby it's belly is measuring about 176 at our 23wk scan and we were told alls fine.

If u need reassurance speak to ur mw or dr.

There is no correct sizes/measurements at this stage as all develope at diff rates

Hth :hugs:

I had the exact same thing at my 20 week scan - abdominal measurement was in 97th percentile. They booked me an extra scan in six weeks to check growth. Coincidentally I also have the same placenta issue so I have yet another scan to check that at 32 weeks (I think).

I am sure if they were worried about the tummy measurement they would ask you to come in for another scan, which they didn't so don't worry!

hey hun i wouldnt worry too much! my little boy's measurments ac, hc and fl are all off the chart! lol but i have big babys WITHOUT GD my first was 11lb 14oz at birth but can't remember how big she was measuring at 20 weeks. this LO is probably going to be a similar weight. as long as baby is healthy it doesnt matter what size they are xxx

my baby's abdomen was measuring big too. i honestly don't think it means anything... if it was something bad they wouldve let you know

At my 20 week scan, baby babys ac was a litte on the large size too, they told me it was nothing to worry about atm, and today i had my 25week scan and it was nearly off the 'average' scale, i was a little worried, but they said its nothing to worry about but if its still like that later on in the pregnancy they will look further in too it. Im still kinda confused :/ goodluck x

Thanks ladies, your comments have made me feel better 
