My OH has always had a bit of a problem with the name I really liked for our little man - Oliver. The reason he's put up a fuss now is because it's come to our attention that it's a very popular name at the moment, and we're not sure we want him to be the 3rd or more Oliver in his class when it's time for him to go to school :dohh:

So at the last minute we have agreed to think of a few other options to choose between. Oliver is still a possibility, but have also decided that Flynn and Lachlan (pronounced Lock-Linn) or Lachy (sounds like Locky) for short aren't too bad either :) Might I add I still love the name Oliver!

I've made the poll multi-choice incase you ladies like more than one or even all three names - look forward to seeing what comes out on top

xx Thanks for your input girls!

I voted Flynn- it seems unusual to me, and although Oliver is lovely, there are so many of those around!
Good luck

Oliver is sweet, but I've always loved Lachlan and I always liked not being a Kelly, Donna or Claire which were the popular names when I was growing up.

i voted ' oliver' its a sweet name ( your other choices are lovely too). go with the name your heart is really set upon. :)

I like them all, Flynn and Lachlan were on my list too. Another we found was Lorchan - very similar to Lachlan, and a bit different too

I love Oliver :D I don't know your plans on middle names but Oliver Flynn sounds nice :) not really a fan of Lachlan though, sorry! I think people will have trouble pronouncing it cos of the way it's spelled. Maybe that's just me though!

Oliver was one of our boys names, I love it :flower:, I also really like Flynn though, its a bit more unusual . xx

I think you might regret it if you don't choose the name you really love especially if there ends up being no Olivers in your little boy's class. Popularity tends to be different in different areas so while Oliver might be popular in the country as a whole in your area other names might be much more commonly used, local birth announcements are a good way to check.

go with the 1 your love
i chose oliver

Hi hun,
Just wanted to say when i had my 1st and 2nd LO i didn't have the Internet and didn't have any idea what popular names there were, i also lived in a very rural area.

So my first is called Chloe (of which there loads in her school but none in her class)
And my 2nd born is Ryan ... theres 3 Ryans in his class, one of them even has the same 2nd initial :dohh:

I didnt know these names were popular, they were just names we liked .. but knowing what i know now if i could turn back time i wouldn't change things (well id change Chloes name because i never liked it .. OH picked it lol)

My son doesn't mind sharing him name with his friends ... they all call each other by their full names!!

If you really love a name ... go with it :hugs:

Lachlan was our second choice if we didn't pick the name we did. Except we had it spelled Locklan or maybe Lochlan. I just LOVE that name.

I voted for Lachlan, sounds so cool! And unique! I also love Oliver, though... but it does seem to be getting more & more popular.

I didn't realize that my son's name, Jayden, was so popular when i named him. I wouldn't change it, by any means, and still love it... but found it amusing when he came home one day with a note from daycare that read, "Jayden loved playing cars today with Braedyn & Aidan"... plus there was a little girl named Jaidyn in his class too! And this was out of only 15 kids!

I've come to accept that someday in school, my son may be known as "Jayden C."

Oliver is just such a lovely name!

I grew up with a popular name and it never bothered me, my sister had an unusual name and i was so glad i was born second and got my dads choice not my mums!!

Oliver is a name i would use, it is our boys choice.

I personally think there is nothing wrong with popular names, i choose an unusual name for my dd having had 2 popular names for my boys and all i seem to do is spend time spelling it out to people and my dd saying everyone spells her name wrong, plus no personalised things which children love are ever in unusual names unless you get them ordered!
So my last baby girl is a Sophie, nice and popular and juice cups a plenty with her name on!!
My son is a Jack, very popular, he is 16 now, the year after we named him Jack it was the most popular name that year! He just writes Jak, and thinks its really cool!

Go with what you love, its a long time to be saying it!

:hugs:

i went with oliver i think it sounds the best xx

Fynn is a gorge name, but unfortunately I have a nephew called Phin  So it's out, sadly. But the name Finley or Findlay is lovely x

Oliver is perfect!! I dont really like the other two though sorry!! but i really dont think Oliver is that popular to be honest and its gorgeous!!

I love the name Lachlan - but am completely biased as my 4th son is called Lachlan! we call him lockie all the time - it really suits him :)

I LOVE Oliver
There were 3 in the year group I taught last year, but only 1 more in a school of 220, so not too popular
