Hi ladies,

So my husband and I had been happily BD'ing and then about 2 weeks ago, or whenever it was, there was the announcement of the global emergency re the zika virus. We have a trip planned to Mexico in May so we decided that we'd take a break from trying until after we're back to save us the worry. Thing is that I am now a week late. Took a HPT on Sunday and got a BFN, but I may have just tested too early. Or maybe my cycle is just being dumb. I want a BFP so badly, but then we'd be faced with decisions around the trip - a trip we'd be going on with family who've all bought into etc., and we'd have to explain to them why should we decide to back out. Either that or I go and wear mozzie repellent the whole time.

Too soon to sound any alarms of nervousness, but it's weird to be nervous because I want a baby so badly - but I want it to be healthy and I've been looking forward to this trip for many many months now.

Just wanted to vent, but perhaps you have some words of wisdom/encouragement for me.

Good luck with your BFP. Have you tested again?

Why not talk to your GP and ask for advice about your trip.

If you are negative now and do the trip both you and your partner need to take special precautions not to get bit.

Don't envy your situation.

For me I get bit no matter what precautions I take so for me planning on a babe would avoid places of active virus.

Best of luck.

If you go to a zika infected zone u cant ttc for 8 months as the bacteria might still be in ur blood stream sorry to be a party pooper. If u are pg im sure u can get a refund as it is on medical grounds.

Assuming you are pregnant, I would go but I would want to protect myself with as much information as possible: talking to your doctor is a good start. Find out exactly where you will be and if there have been any Zika cases. So far, I don't think I've heard of international tourists catching Zika in Mexico. The conditions in a deep jungle are different from a seaside resort, for example. Yes - have multiple insect repellent options. Also, for peace of mind, would it be possible to be tested for the virus when you get back home? Maybe by May, the world will know a lot more about risks and transmission and testing for the disease. It is scary but it still seems like the risks are very small and there are so many things about pregnancy that involve weighing probabilities.

Bug spray is the key! Spray like crazy and enjoy a trip and you will fare just fine. Although I dont think mosquitos hang out near the beaches. And who knows? You may get pregnant on your romantic getaway!! Down with Zika, up with romance I say!!

Personally I would wait for more conclusive test results--and if BFP I would cancel. But that's just me--I would not have a good time on my trip if I was worrying about it. The big airlines will all refund money to pregnant women traveling to Zika countries...not sure about a hotel though :( I think if BFN it's okay to go but just use lots of DEET and resume TTC when you're back. The CDC website says if you get Zika it's only in your bloodstream for a week and okay to TTC after that...
