My son is a month old now and has always had an awesome latch, he still does if hes falling asleep.
Lately he has been getting lazy and his latch is less than awesome especially if he is worked up or just coming down from a freak out.
This is resulting in him gulping air which leads to painful gas and lots of long nights of crying.
We burp often as well but it just doesnt cut it. Its only really around 9pm that it gets really bad.
Any advice on how to get him to stay properly latched?
Anyone else with a similar issue?

Has he grown a lot in length recently? If so you may need to reposition him across a little so he is still in the nose-sniffing-the-nipple position.

Latching a crying baby notoriously leads to poor latching because a crying mouth has its tongue rigid and wont cup the underside of the breast, maybe a few extra minutes calming him (or if he's crying because he's overly hungry then feeding more frequently) might help?

I would suggest trying to offer feeding before he starts crying (if he's crying due to hunger), or calming him down before trying to feed him.

Expressing a drop or two of milk into his mouth might help him calm down enough to latch.

He spazzes out within seconds of waking up. 0-5000 in 2 seconds. Its like he thinks i wont hear him if he doesnt panic lol. He is rarely awake and not crying if im not holding him. Hes definitely a mommas boy. Its hot here 30 degrees celcius so carrying him in my wrap just isnt working out for either of us..he will unlatch himself then proceed to suck on my shoulder during burp time. If i put him down in a chair or in bed he spazzes right out.
Its so weird.
When awake he will eat every 30-60min and sleep 1-2 hours at a time. 4 hours at night.
Thanks for the tips ladies.ill give it a try

Same issue here. Little one is 7 weeks old he can't be bothered to open mouth properly esp when feeds off left breast . So much air going in results in crying and winding which goes on for ages in the night

Its horrible isnt it!
For us its a laziness thing because at night he has no issue properly latching. 😂
I read a bit on shallow latch and the reccomendations helped a little but we are still struggling with it.
Hopefully you can fix it for good
