I had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks. I found out last Monday when I was supposed to be about 17 weeks that our baby had died at approximately 13 weeks.

There's lots that's happened between now and then, but my question right now is this:

My boobs have started leaking tonight and feel really, really hard. How long does this go on? Do I have to do anything? Should I be worried?

no there is no need to be worried its not uncommon for womens boobs to leak after the loss of a baby but there is nothin you can do if they are sore try puttin a warm flannel over them to releas the pressure in them or a warm shower! but how long it will last is any ones guess it will stop eventually though!
sorry for your loss!

Hi, sorry about your loss. when i lost my little boy i had the same, the hospital gave me a tablet and told me that the milk should stop in a few days. it lasted a week for me. a good tip, instead of buying breast pads, cut a sanitary towel in half and stick each half in to the cup of your bra, cheaper and also means you dont have to go to baby shops. xx

I called my doctor this morning to see if there's anything I can do to relieve some of the pressure and discomfort. They said that I shouldn't express any and should just wear a tight bra and put cold compresses on as needed. It should dry up in a few days, they said. Let's hope it does. It's very upsetting on top of everything else.

I had the same thing after my daughter passed away at 24 weeks. I was only really uncomfortable for three days and it was all over in a week. So hang in there.

Hi Hun,

Sorry for you loss.

You can get water tablets which will help! They are only prescribed from your doctor.

My boobs are just so sore. Anyone else remember how long it took for them to dry up after their miscarriage?

I m/c my daughter at 18w and afterwards my boobs were hot and painful. It lasted for about 5 days before they finally stopped hurting and went back to normal. Now they're like they always have been.

Thank you so much for your response. It's been about 2 days now and my boobs aren't as sore as they were on Monday. I've read in so many places that putting cabbage leaves on them helps to relieve the pain and dry them up. I'm trying it tonight. At this point, I'm willing to try anything! I need them to go back to normal before I go back to work on Monday so that I'm not constantly thinking about it.

Hope that they get back to normal soon hun mine aren't like that because I wasnt as far along as you but come on... that is all you need isnt it on top of everything else isnt it. Did the cabbage leaves work? :hugs:

I haven't decided yet whether the cabbage leaves work or not. Everything that I have read said that they do, so I'll keep using them. My boobs do feel a little less hard today, but I'm still leaking into the breast pads. It's upsetting to think that my body believes it just delivered a baby who needs this milk, but there's nothing I can do but wait. So, wait I will do....and try to smile while I do it.

Cold compresses and a very snug fitting bra also help reduce the pain and swelling quicker. Mine got to the point where showering and being hugged by my husband were painful. It was a sad aftereffect of the m/c reminding me of what might have been. In the evening if possible, lay on the couch, that also helps the swelling reduce. Never tried the cabbage leaves.
