leap reader help please

Is this the same as the tag pens? I keep seeing books for the leapreader but not sure if they are compatible with the tag pen. Anyone have any idea?

The tag was the older system, so some books still have tag written on them but work with leap reader pen...BUT, make sure it's not tag junior or leap reader junior on the books as these are designed for the wee puppy reader pen, for under 4s. I've bought a leap reader and nearly got caught out!
