When I was dealing with mastitis and researching online, I came across several references to taking lecithin supplements as a way to prevent blocked ducts while breastfeeding. So I ordered some. Well, it arrived today, and the "Risk Information" on the bottle says not to take it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

I can't find any information about why taking lecithin while breastfeeding could be bad. Does anyone know why there'd be a warning about that? Has anyone had problems with it? I don't want to take it if it's not safe.

I have never taken it. But I do know of an LC and la leche league leaders telling mom's to take it if they have repeated mastisis and blocked ducts.

No scientifically valid clinical studies exist on the safety and efficacy of high-dose lecithin supplementation in nursing mothers or infants.

So maybe its just warning against high doses.
