I see peopletalk about their let down and hind milk and how they can feel it, but I never really feel much during breast feeding besides nipple pain. How am I supposed to know when mine is?

with the hind milk your baby will switch to deep sucks with some longer pauses and then to get out the really fatty milk will switch to more fluttery sucks with even longer pauses inbetween; also you'll know if your baby has yellowy or orangey poo and is gaining weight well xx

I didn't start to feel my letdown until later on. It's quite a strong feeling and lasts for about 10 seconds. It's stronger if she hasn't fed for a longer time. I never really felt it the first few weeks.
With the foremilk Sophie just gulps and she swallows every suck. Then her sucks go slower like butterfly sucks and she doesn't swallow as loud/often.

Wow you guys are so cool to know this stuff, I love this forum!! Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread but I don't leak when I let down, is that OK / normal?

I barely leak! Only if Soph manages to nog feed for 7-8 hours and she starts crying, that's about the only time I leak!

LMAO, I wish I didn't leak when I let down! Wee man has taken the habit of sucking until let down, unlatching and smiling while my boob sprays everywhere :dohh:

I started to feel letdown around two weeks ago. So just shy of 5 months.

I didn't feel a letdown until he was about 4 months old, I think? And boy it felt strong! It's the most odd feeling, kind of like all these teeny muscles in your breast are squeezing. Sort of an electric tingle.

ugh ive had them since the beginning and i oh so wish i didn't leak.....especially when somebody else baby cries, let alone my own! TUT

Some never feel let down. I have felt it sooner with each baby. With my 1st around 2 weeks, 2nd about 1 week, and 3rd at 2 days, my milk hadnt even come in quite yet and I could feel let down of my colostrum.

I only ever felt let-down in the early months (I think 5 or 6 months was the last time) and I could only feel it if I was really full, so usually only after a longer stretch of night sleep. I've only leaked maybe 3 times ever (once I soaked the bed while having a dream about breastfeeding). Don't worry, these things don't mean a whole lot.

I only ever feel let down in the first few weeks and only towards the end of a feed xx

Should clarify in the early days I felt it in between feeds, it was like a reminder to feed the baby. Then it disapeared and now it has come back and I can feel the difference as I feed.
