Hey girls, I'm so happy to announce my beautiful Lilly Beth has arrived.
I was 38+1 and was induced for high blood pressure.
I got to the hospital at 5:30 am. They set me up in a private room and started getting things ready. They checked me before starting the pitocin and I was BARELY 1cm dilated, 20% effaced, my cervix was posterior and was super high, and she wasn't even engaged! This was going to be a LONG DAY. They started the pitocin at 6am and I felt absolutely fine. The contractions started pretty quickly but just felt like my stomach was tightening, no pain at all. At 10am, my doctor came in and checked me. I was still 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, and my cervix was lower. He decided to break my water and told me the contractions were about to get a lot more intense. They didn't. Lol. I could feel them but was in no pain still. Around 1pm I started feeling a bit more pressure with each contraction and started having to breathe through them. Still completely bearable though. My nurse came in and checked me at 2pm. STILL 1CM DILATED! OMG, after seven hours I was still only a one. :/ I was 80% effaced though and my cervix was still thinning. After that check my contractions started getting ridiculously painful. I couldn't talk through them anymore and had to really concentrate on my breathing and try not to hold on my breath. I couldn't stand sitting on the bed anymore so they let me stand up. I rocked my hips and that made me feel a little better. I also tried a birthing ball. That didn't help at all, in fact I think it made my contractions worse.
By 5pm I was in sooo much pain with each contraction. I was thinking about getting the epidural. I wanted my nurse to check me before I made my decision. She checked me and I WAS STILL AT A ONE!! Holy shit! Twelve hours and haven't progressed at all!! I was gutted. I had been preparing myself all day for a csection because I just wasn't progressing at all and thought there's no way I can do a vaginal delivery. I couldn't believe I was only 1cm dilated and in so much pain. I told her I wanted the epidural. It took the guy about an hour to get there and about thirty minutes to get the epidural in. It took longer to kick in than he wanted but eventually worked. I was feeling great, I could still feel the contractions but they didn't hurt. Then the nurse checked me at 7pm and I was 3cm! Yay!! I was so happy. Then I started noticing I could start to feel my contractions on my right side again. So they flipped me over and the epidural started numbing my right side again but then I could feel my contractions on my left! They were SO INTENSE. I was so scared of getting to the pain I was having before and begged my nurse to do something. She upped the dose twice but it didn't work. Finally she decided to call the epidural guy and he came about 30 minutes later and gave me a second epidural. Damn, that one worked. Lol, I was SO NUMB, I couldn't feel a thing. Couldn't even feel pressure from my contractions. My nurse checked me at 9:30pm and I was 9cm dilated! I jumped from 3 to 9 in two hours! I was so shocked! About 10:30 I told my sister/dad/mom that I felt like I had to poop. My mom and dad thought nothing of it but my sister freaked out and said she thought I needed to push and ran to get the nurse. When the nurse came in she didn't think I needed to push but when she checked me I was 10cm and she told me to do a practice push. I did and she said, "okay stop!!" And went to call the doctor immediately. He got there super fast and got his gear on and said "Okay, let's do a push." And the head was out! He said "one more push and you'll have this baby out!" I gave one more push and she was out!
Two pushes and that was it! My placenta came right after. I had a small 2nd degree tear and only two stitches.
Lilly Beth was born on June 1st, 2012 at 10:51pm and weighed 7lbs 6oz, and was 19 1/2 in. long.
Right after she was born, she was given to me to breastfeed. I was with her for an hour and she did great.
I got to talk to my husband on and off all day via skype and he was on skype when I was delivering but the connection cut out RIGHT BEFORE SHE WAS BORN! So he missed it. ):
I'm still in the hospital and will be released tomorrow morning. We're having some trouble breastfeeding, mostly just latching. After she latches she feeds like a champ.
Overall, my induction went really well. I was scared because so many women have told me getting induced is so much worse than natural labor because the contractions are so intense and painful right away and aren't gradual like natural labor. Well mine wasn't like that at all, they were super gradual and I had time to get used to them and prepare myself for stronger ones.
Me and DH love our little girl so much, she is such a great baby and never cries. She's just so beautiful and so serene. She's already our entire world.
Here are some pictures.
Sorry it was so long!
