although baby Lilly was born nearly seven months ago - I'd really like to share my birth story with you all :)

Well it all started when i was 37 weeks pregnant, with my blood pressure slowly creeping up and finally it got to the point that my midwife recommended I went into the antenatal ward to have a blood profile done as I also had trace protien in my urine and my normal blood pressure was 120/80 it had gone up to 129/96.

So I had that done and they sent me home. Over the next few days my blood pressure climbed and I was in and out of the maternity day care ward to have blood profiles done like they were going out of fashion :D

Then on Friday 20th July they took me in for good as I was 39 weeks and my blood pressure was 120/144 and decided they would induce me, I had a sweep done and i was 1cm dilated and the doctor said that they would have to hospitalise me anyway so they may as well induce me for my health and of course the baby's too.

So I waited and on Saturday night they gave Prostiglandin to work on my cervix and thin it out (I had already had some mucus plug coming away).

On Sunday morning i had some cramps like a bad period and by 12pm they were getting quite sore, they examined me to see how the prostiglandin had done and I was still only 1cm dilated but very thinnly effaced, I was gutted as they were going to break my waters and the cramps were getting more painful. They said they'd check me in another hour for progress.

Five minutes later my waters broke! So i put on my TENS unit and walked around, used a birthing ball and had a bath, all the time the contractions seemed more and more intense.

At about 2pm they took me down to the labour suite as i "looked like I was the most in pain" :hissy: when I got to the labour suite they had to take my TENS unit away from me as it was interferring with the equiptment they use to monitor the babies heart-rate and my contractions.

Again I was examined and had a drip put in incase i needed extra hormones to help the contractions along and I was 7cm dilated (no wonder the contractions were so intense!!!)

Finally got the gas and air and after that I don't remember a lot but I do remeber the gas and air making me feel very sick and wanting Diamorphine when the gas and air just wasn't helping anymore.

At 6pm the midwife went for her lunch and another midwife was checking on me and another woman, I joked and said to the midwife that i'd have the baby before she came back from her lunch.

Soon as the midwife left the room I said to my OH I can feel the baby coming, sure enough she was!! The midwifes rushed back in and little Lilly was delivered at 6.30pm :happydance:

She weighed 7lbs 9oz and scored 9 on the apgar!! Trust me she was just as shocked as i was at her speedy delivery she was scarlet! I breastfed her to help with the delivery of the placenta which was sucessfully delivered 25minutes later.

As it was such a quick delivery i had an Episiotomy.

Thanks for reading my birth story and I wish i had found this site earlier I would have been able to share the ups and downs of my pregnancy with you all :) ah well - better late than not at all.

Here's some of her very first pictures
