hi girls

i'm probably worrying about nothing but i've noted on my scan notes that my baby's femur length is below everything else (while still in the guidelines). Can anyone else pls compare with their measurements?
My baby shouldn't have short femur length really as I am 5'9, my hubby is 5'11! I know it can be a soft marker for things but as they didn't say anything to me I'm assuming everything is ok, don't really want my LO to have stumpy legs though!!!!

BPD 48 mm
HC 167 mm
AC 144 mm
FL 29 mm

The scan was done at 19 weeks 3 days.

thanks x

It's normal, as long as there plotting on the graph I wouldn't worry. My LOs legs measured lower than the tummy & head... and at 33 weeks had caught up so don't worry. Plently of time to grow!!

thats funny cos mine was short on the femur length aswell which i thought was odd as im 5ft 9 and the fob is 6ft3 lol apparently its fine they just grow at differant rates x

omg my baby is going to be huge then!

hc 178.9mm
ac 152.8mm
fl 32.5mm

whats bpd lilly? i cant see that on my notes? x

I cant really compare mine as my scan was done at 20+4 so it wouldnt be accurate if there was anything at all wrong hun they have to make you aware please try not to worry x

hiya i had my scan at 20+4 the measurements were
FHC 168
FAC 148
FL 30
i dont know if this is average but they said everything was fine

due 24th june

lilly, the majority of the growing will be done in 3rd trimester. I wouldnt worry! My OH is 6'4ish and I am 5'10 and our baby's femur was only slightly longer than average...by a couple of mm! I was surprised as I too presumed I would have this long legged baby inside already, but the sonographer said not to worry, that genetically it would be very unlikely for us to have a short child and that the growing usually takes off in 3rd tri!
Just looking at the print out now...
BDP-50.1mm
HC-179.0mm
AC-147.2mm
FL-32.1mm

eek, my baby has a big head circumference already!!

thanks girls for all your replies - yeah I guess I'd have to compare at exactly the same gestational age as days matter a lot growth wise and I was only 19w3d at the scan.

Worried as the head works out to be 5 days ahead (!!!) and the femur length 4 days behind?! I'm hoping that she'll catch up and that everything's just growing at different rates..
I found this while googling which was pretty helpful

Just had mine done at 19w3d too, measurements were

FL 30.0
HC 173.0
AC 149.0

I was told by my consultant that it's perfectly normal for FL to be about a week behind, in fact, almost expected.

is anyone else tempted to get a sheet of paper and plot out the size of their baby?

hahahaha yes ! my baby has a huge head already!

i just looked at mine again and mines got a big head and short body lmao seems to be almost the norm though from what you ladies have said x

Lilly, mine was slightly behind on the scan too, yet we are both tall. Mind you, the baby was being really awkward that day!

I was 19+6 & here are the measurements:

HC - 175
AC - 147.8
FL -30.3mm

On the graph, the FL is slightly below the middle line, but the other two measurements are slightly above. I saw the consultant after the scan (due to previous molar pregnancy) & he never mentioned it. He wrote on my notes 'normal anomaly uss' & signed me off.

I'm going to quiz my MW about this when I go in a few weeks.

might just mean your one wont be a leggy long legs :) xxx

That's the only reason why I thought it was a little odd, in our case, as we are both long legged & have to buy 'tall' or 'extra long' trousers beacuse of it!

I think it might have just been the NHS scan anyway, it was very blurred.

Wish I'd asked for it to be re-measured at my private scan the following week, that was crystal clear & baby was awake. Oh well, I'm sure I'll go for another at some point! :)

hehe my mother in law is about my height - 5 foot 7 and her husband is probably not much taller, maybe about 5,11?

yet they managed to produce a wopping great big son! my husband is 6 foot 7! :) it just shows - you just dont know which genes are lurking in your family until they appear ;)

xx
