Hiya

From my first smear when I was 22 (now 27) J had abnormal smear. Had to go for regular colposcopies and ended up having biopsies done then in 2006 had a lletz done under general anaesthetic. I was told at the time that I would very likely never be able to carry a baby to full term and a stitch would possibly be needed.

At my booking appointment i told mw this and she has put in notes about lletz. I was just wondering at what point would i know if i need the stitch and how do i get them to check?

Thank you.
Xx

a stitch is normally placed between 12 and 16 weeks as preventative and after then as an emergency if your cervix begins to change. I'd mention it again to your midwife or doctor incase it has been over looked. There is a thread on here entitled incompetent cervix threatened labour you will fine very helpful the girls on there are going through been through this situation and are full of good sound advice.

I had LLETZ done under general too, was told the same thing! Docs kept telling me that DD would be premie! Well 2 weeks OD they had to induce me!!! She was just fine, you can find stuff on internet about it. I believe with modern treatments used, it shouldn't always be a problem!

Best of luck to you, discuss with your MW any concerns, like I said I was fine!

:hugs:

Hi hun. I'd make sure you get a consultant appt at you hospital asap, your midwife can arrange this. You'll need to be seen to discuss options before you reach 12/14wks. Tell you mw you want to be referred.

The consultant will likely give you choices - either to wait and see how your cervix behaves as the pregnancy progresses by giving you fortnightly internal scans, or to put a stitch in anyway at 12wks. I'd go for the stitch immediatley hun, it works so much better placed before changes have occured than after the cervix has begun to shorten.

If you previous clinicians were recommending a stitch, then I'd assume you have a short cervix and push to be stitched. I had one done in my last twin pregnancy, and I made it term. You know where we are if you need us x

Thank you! Its nice to hear not all end up needing a stitch. Xx
