We've just cut our breastfeeding sessions down to 1-2 per day (I bring bubs into bed with me in the mornings) and so she's started having formula regularly - basically since this weekend...

Since she's been having the formula she's been pooing less often and the past couple of days she seems to be uncomfortable some of the time, very gassy, but not pooing...then when she does poo (she's doing it about once a day now, still having plenty of wet dipes) it's VERY watery and there's a LOT of it - to the point where we're having poosplosions (or near enough) with every poo....

Anyway, I'm wondering if it's the formula causing this and what we can do - she's on Similac Sensitive (low lactose) atm....I'm not really sure what to try next if it is the formula causing her upset tummy...

For the first few weeks of FF, LO only poo'ed once a day and I think once his system became accustomed to the formula he became a poop machine.

Okay, so do you think it's worth sticking with this formula and seeing if LO adjusts, before trying something else?

When liam was a few weeks old he had really watery poo & we had to take him to hospital as he had a tummy bug, I don't think it's quite right to be really runny so perhaps go the the doctors. All
of his poos were explosive (shooting a few foot across the room sometimes!) but weren't watery and this was due to a cows milk protein intolerance (apparently brought on by the tummy bug irritating his bowel & making it sensitive). He was put on soy milk & has much firmer poos but still suffers with bad trapped wind & tummy cramps- he grunts alot & is very uncomfortable so we think he has a problem with the soy milk too!
If your LO is like this at all it may be worth seeing your doctor as it may be more than a case of getting used to the milk. My doctor was really shocked about the exploding poos & said it definitely should not be happening.

Hope this helps & you get it sorted!

We went from the reg. similac to the sensitive similac because LO would gag and choke halfway through a bottle. The switch did not give him any relief. We are now using the Similac Isomil (soy) which is easier on his system but stinks coming out both ends (burps and poops!) If you are concerned with switching, give your LO's pediatrician a call and get their opinion or recommendation.

DH went out and brought back some Similac Advance...the regular stuff - she's getting on a lot better - she's pooing more regularly now and less of the runny ones... The morning after she started having the regular Similac, she had two poos and they were pastey rather than runny... So think it must've just been that particular formula... She didn't seem to have a problem with it in the beginning, so we'll keep an eye now.

I want to contact the Paediatrician anyway, so he knows we're combi feeding now and not just breast feeding... I just have to wait until DH gets home, which is sometimes too late to actually ring him.

Thanks for the help!

xx
