Its my baby's 1st set of jabs today. She is having all of them except whooping cough (my cousin was made severly disabled from this jab & died at a younge age of 22).
What can I expect? I'm dreading it so my mum is coming and will be holding her when they do it :( Will she be ill, grumpy?
Also, her right eye is all sticky and has lots of gunk in it, I'm cleaning it often but can she still have her jabs?

Stalking your thread as my LO has them on Thursday!

That's awful about your cousin. My LO will def be getting the whooping cough one too as there's an outbreak at the moment and babies are particularly susceptible :(

Yeh I heard about the outbreak and I've thought long & hard about it. My OH understands and I've asked advise from my mum. Myself, my sister & my brother never had the whooping cough vaccination and mum just said its my choice and to do what I think is best.

she can still have her jabs, the eye is probably just a blocked tear duct. My LO has had 2 sets now and no ill effects except for a small red lump on her leg that went away quickly.

Both of my dd's were a lot more sleepy, genrally grumpy and didn't want much food for a day or so. I just kept a close eye on them, made sure they were hydrated and kept an eye on their temp. One thing that I have found is if you feed them straight after they have had them done, it settles them quicker as apparently their sucking motion helps with pain. Good luck x

Expect a grumpy baby for a while, Oliver was off it for about a week after all his. Also they may not sleep as well x

Jason screamed. I cried. It's actually over in less than a minute, and as soon as I was getting his suit back on and he was in the pram he was fast asleep :)

Afterwards he was his usual self, very alert and smiley, he had a big 4 hour nap in the evening though :)

Expect tears. My poor LO was very unimpressed by the needles and let the waiting room know. She was comforted with a feed straight afterward though.

She slept for 16 hours straight after both sets (just wakung for feeds). They seem to knock her out for the count! When she woke, she was back to her jolly self. She's also needed some pediamed both times for a slightly raised temperature.

After the first set, she also had a lump at the site of her injection which took about a month to go away.

My LO had no side effects and seemed himself! Cried for about 10 seconds while I got ready to BF him, which was really convenient! Lol! I had sat in the waiting watching 3 babies come out of the room screaming :( but my LO had a wee feed for a minute and was as happy as larry when we were leaving!

I think its worse for the mums than the babies! I couldnt watch the injections go in, so I just tried to distract him (and myself)!

So it sounds like babies react differently. She could go either way then and be fussy and not sleep or be ok and sleep for ages. :s lol

She is combo fed, shall I offer her the breast or a bottle after? Will they let me do it in the doctors room or will the doc send me out? Oh and is it a doc or a nurse?

It's a nurse, I doubt they will let you feed her whilst she is having them as I tried it and LO was in such a state he started to gargle and choke on it c

it's usually a nurse...i'd say breast if it gives her more comfort, but you probably won't be able to stay in the room. my lo cried for about 30 seconds and was fine again.

The nurse told me there are 4 kinds of reaction to expect: 1. baby could get a temp so have a bottle of calpol on hand just in case (mine is still unopened) 2. baby could be cranky and cry more for a day or 2. 3. Baby could be sleepy for a day or 2. 4. Baby could have no effects at all.

First jab for mine he didn't react at all and was just a bit grumpy, that's all. Second jab at three months ( he's becoming more aware etc) he had a good cry like ' WTF!! was thaaaat!! mummy!!' sort of look.

Just give some calpol if the leg is a bit red but apart from that I think it's just one of those things that has to get done and it's for baby's safety and health so best not treat it as a major issue as LO will pick up on parent being anxious and there is no need to be. Yes, needles hurt and yes they need a bit of comfort straight after but unless you have an extremely sensitive child, there should be no concerns. Try to relax about it and it'll be over and done with in a jiffy.

personally if you are not going to give your LO the whooping cough vaccine perhaps think about you and your OH getting it instead- Most cases of whooping cough is passed on to the little one from a carer- I have had whooping cough as a child and i would not wish it on my worst enemy-

My OH had the whooping cough jab buy haven't had it.
Well it's all done. It was horrible for me :( Poor baby cried, my mum comforted her as I couldn't watch, plus I have massive needle phobia and couldn't look. As soon as she was placed in my arms, seconds later, she stopped crying and fell asleep lol.
It turns out the vaccines are an all In one type of thing and she reassured me times have changed since my cousin was vaccinated so LO is immunised against it now, but I know I'll be very nervous about it. Darren (my cousin) was brain damaged his 6 months jabs and that was confirmed and he died age 22. I'm sure I'll be looking out for signs but I'll try not to think about it.
