Any tips on how to get my DD to nap during the day? She's fantastic and night (which I'm really grateful for) and goes straight to sleep when we put her in her moses basket. But during the day is another matter. She just won't take any naps. She doesn't always go to sleep in the car either, or out in the pram. She gets so grumpy cause she's so tired and screams her head off, but I just don't know how to get her to nap?

I've tried the rapid return thing, but that doesn't seem to work, she just gets so worked up and upset.

Sorry don't have an answer but how about we swap for a day. Mine wants to sleep all day and is bored at night because he's wide awake and wants me to interact with him which I try to avoid doing.

I know exactly what you mean. isla used to be a terrible napper Does she nap on you at all? You could try a sling. Isla always gets sleepy in it even now.

White noise is also very effective. Use the hairdryer or the cooker hood and see if that makes her close her eyes.

Also wait a couple of hours once she's awake, then try putting her down when you notice the first tired signs - rubbing eyes, getting more unresponsive to stimulation, yawning. It's easier putting them down for naps before they're overtired.

swaddling can also help :)

Hope you find something that works for you.

Oh dear. I know I sound awful moaning about daytime napping, when she's fine at night and I'm sure a lot of people will hate me for it! I hope your LO settles down soon.

The only way Kieran will nap is in a sling during the day

kace was like that at 2 month. she slept excellant at night but wouldnt nap. Like someone said after about 2hr from each wake up try to get baby to sleep. Thats about all they can stay awake for. I gave in in the end and let her nap on me. sometimes i could then move her to the sofa but rarely. everyone said rod for my own back but i figured that she needed the sleep more. Eventually she learnt to nap as well and now has a good 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon in her cot. but it took awhile. Another thing i did to get her in her cot for naps was to do a mini bedtime routine. i pout sleeping bag on her , closed curtains and put lightshow on. This helped

Erin was exactly the same at 2mnth. I have created her a little routine for naps which seems to be working. I rock/shh/dummy in her bedroom with the curtains closed and no noise except her Slumber Bear. At first it took ages to get her to drift off, now she's gone in 5 (max 10) mins. I found that her night time routine worked so well, I thought trying a nap one might work.

Do you have a night time routine? Maybe take bits from that, that LO will recognise as sleep inducing and create a nap rotuine?

Where do you try and get her to nap? I always have Erin nap in either her cot or rocker. These places are very familiar to her, so I guess she feels co mfortable in them.

Good luck!

At 2 months I suggest not letting her get past an hour awake time.

After 10 weeks of trying I finally found 2 ways to get LO to nap:

Putting him in a sling, playing music and dancing normally gets him to sleep after 2 tracks. However I have not managed to get him out of the sling without waking him.

The second is to swaddle him and lie him in the middle of a big bed. Make the room dark and play hairdryer white noise from utube on repeat. Feed him lying down and then when he falls asleep roll out of bed backwards before tiptoeing out of the room.

Also as others have said try not to let LO get overtired with a nap every 1.5-2 hours. I didn't realise for several weeks that babies don't always fall asleep when tired and LO used to stay awake from 7am to 7pm getting progressively crankier!

do you drive? i always find if Brandon is grumpy and fighting his sleep i put him i his car seat and go for a drive, just an idea

After 4 months I've finally cracked napping!

1. Once there's 3 tired signs I take him into the nursery (very dark) and change his nappy with White noise on.

2. Double swaddle him (check YouTube)

3. Cuddle him over my shoulder and shush if necessary and then put him down in the cot calm but awake. He usually cries so I pick up/cuddle/calm and down - after a couple of goes he's falls asleep in the cot.

Since doing this he's having 3-4 naps a day of 45 mins -2 hrs......it's been a revelation!!

No worries it was meant as a cheeky comment, my LO has got a bit better towards the end of the week.
As odd as it might seem I have discovered that if I lay him across my knee face down often he'll drift off. Found this out trying to "wind" him, since concluded that his screaming isn't because of wind but because he's tired and over stimulated, face down limits what he can see hence he settles and drifts off :dohh:
Crying babies are no fun at any time of the day or night.
