Hi im asking for a friend as we have trawled the net lol!

Shes a single mum on income support but needs to move due to her house being small(the list is soooo long!and the area she lives is terrible) but she needs a deposit for private rent. Is there any places she could get a loan? She cant get from dss as she got a budgeting loan a couple of months back for beds for the kids

Any ideas?

Hmm I know you said she already has a budgeting loan she could try getting crisis loan from the DSS? If she's on income support I assume she's getting housing benefit could she not make an appointment with them to talk about it? I'm sure there have been other people in the same situation. They might even know Landlords who don't need a deposit xxx

i was lucky as my landlord agreed to let me pay the deposit off over a set time period.

however i think the councils do a deposit scheme thing, the best thing to do is get her to go to the council and enquire or go to cab they will have all the info x

yeh u can get a budgeting loan form and say its for a deposit hun, you get the form from the job centre, but it will take a few weeks until it comes through x

When I moved I had to save the money for a deposit. Our council only gives the deposits to homeless people and since I was already in council housing (a shitty council flat in a horrible area, a month after we moved someone in OUR BLOCK got their knees slashed with a machete by two blokes)

So I had to save up £1300 to pay the admin fees, first months rent and the bond for this house. It took me just over a month, that was really scraping the barrel though I had £10 a week to feed me and OH and £25 for formula, food and nappies for LO left over and it was a struggle.

Since she's not working, she will struggle to find a loan to cover that amount :( The DSS are horrible with this kind of thing, in their opinion she's choosing to move, so she should be able to pay for it herself :(

Is she over crowded? How many kids, what sexs and ages? If any children have to share who are over 10 they have to ove you imdeiatly. Even if their isnt if there is a genuine case of over crowding they will have to do something about it.

Any loan she could get while on IS will be stupidly high interest or a door step loan which obviously would be a very silly idea.

Do u have a credit union where u live? My sister got her deposit fro
our Ipswich one xx

Thankyou all, i have shown her all of your messages x
