Long Term TTC - What's your cause?

Hello Ladies,

Thought I would come back and update. I got my official DX of PCOS on Nov 19th...it was hard to hear but I have an awesome Dr. and she has me on my first round of Provera to get me a period so I can at least start keeping track of cycles. Hopefully Provera jumpstarts my body and I will get periods on my own each month but if not my Dr. will have me doing Provera every other month. Thinking of waiting until June/July before we add either Clomid or Metformin but then after reading around here it seems like it takes three or more cycle on either or both before a BFP...any input on that?

Any experience with Provera?

Blessings & Babydust,

The Provera just starts you period....it doesn't have anything to do with making you ovulate. It's the Clomid and/or Metformin that will make you ovulate. It seems that most ladies just start out with Met. It will usually take a few months for it to sort out your cycles.

Hi Popchick-Thank you for your response! So just to clarify...Provera will give me an AF and from there I can start to count CD? CD1 is the first day of the period right? Also either Metformin or Clomid will make me ovulate but it seems to take a few cycles before it kicks in? Have you been on either Clomid or Metformin and if so any input??

Blessings & Babydust,

everything you said sounds correct. Not sure about Metformin but Clomid makes you ovulate only on the cycles that you take it, so right away!

Hello Slg,

Thank you for feedback my dr said once we get regular cycles either through repeated Provera or on my own we will start adding in other drugs either Clomid or Metformin so I am trying to do my research! Also read your signature sounds like you have been through a lot please know I am adding you to my prayer list!!!

Mandy- Are you from Northeast CT...that's where I am from and you look familiar!

Blessings & Babydust,

I have crappy eggs (DOR). I am 31 and going into menopause early.

Hi Patchey,

Sorry to hear your dx what treatment options are there for you?

Blessings & Babydust,

I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own, ever, as far as I know. Clomid has made me ovulate and have regular cycles, but still no BFP.

Hey ladies, I finally found out what my LTTTC reason is.

I had an internal ultrasound following a chemical pregnancy and they found I have a heart shaped/bicornuate uterus. I'll be finding out more on the 3rd about what the next steps are.

Blessings & Babydust,

When you take the Provera, the first day of your period will be CD1. Provera has nothing to do with ovulation. It just forces your body to start your period. It has zero effect on the hormones that cause an egg to mature and ovulate. Clomid, however, will stimulate the hormones that cause your eggs to grow and eventually ovulate. Usually, a woman will take the Provera, and then once her period starts she will start Clomid around CD3 (you only take Clomid for 5 days). If you take metformin, you take it everyday. It doesn't directly cause you to ovulate, but it helps regulate your hormone levels which in turn will (hopefully) make you ovulate on your own. Sometimes that takes some time.

I have a clotting disorder and immune problems where my body attacks an embryo - great! Recurrent miscarriage as a result.
Been TTC for 2.5 years... I am on Intralipids and aspirin so we will see. Only just found out after having Chicago test through Zita West. I would recommend anyone who has repeated miscarriage to seek these tests out if they can. Don't wait until you have 7 early (4 -6 weeks) miscarriages/chemicals like me. My NHS RE was suggesting they were in my head and I was told just to keep trying... Good job I looked elsewhere!

Baby dust to all you lovely, brave, women...x

Hello Ladies,

Dottie- That must have been hard news to hear…praying your apt on the 3rd goes well and a game plan can be made to get you your BFP!

Popchick-Thank you for feedback!

Miss Rach-Good for you on being your own pt advocate!!! Best of luck to you!!!

Lemonade-I am a newly dx PCOSer…what made you go with Clomid over Metformin. Ovulating and regular AF are half the battle!!!

Have a Terrific Thanksgiving!!!!

Blessings & Babydust,

Hi ladies,

Hubby and I have been TTC for 18months with pcos. Went for scan today and have been diagnosed with another dermoid cyst on my right ovary (had a 5cm Dermoid removed 4 years ago) They want to remove this before they will consider putting me on any medication. :0( Looks like another long wait but at least things that need fixing are being checked xx:wacko:
