Hey everyone, hope your all feeling OK today:flower:

I don't know if this stems from having so many scans with my first pregnancy that this one feels weird to not be having more but, does anyone else think not having any scans done after the 20 week scan to birth sort of worrisome? Like, how do you know nothing is wrong in there?? From what I've read, so many things could potentially happen such as placenta problems, low fluid, too much fluid, IUGR, the list goes on. With my first, he was diagnosed with issues in utero at 20 weeks so I had scans done monthly, then bi-weekly after 30 weeks so maybe I'm just use to being high risk? And at his 33 week scan they discovered I had very low amniotic fluid so they delivered him, and the weird thing is, my fundal height was never measuring behind. So I always think, If I never had than scan, how would they have discovered my low fluid levels? What if it happened this pregnancy? Anyways, sure I'm worrying over nothing but, anyone else ever think this?

I think its wrong too. So many issues can occur after 20 weeks, you just don't know whats going on inside there. The only thing is private scans i think, which is costly. It should defo be looked into though, i just don't agree that you only get 2 scans, thats nothing.

I always think women should get more scans. At least one around 30 weeks just to be sure. I do try not to think about it. I have faith that my midwife or myself would pick up on if anything could be wrong (ie. listening to heartbeat, growth and movements etc) but yeah I'd feel much happier having another one or two scans

With my first I had no scans after 20 weeks and it was discovered after she was born that she had IUGR and the placenta was almost dead and starting to calcify. I was upset that it wasn't caught sooner! Because of that, I got a 32 weeks scan with my second, but I think, like EmzyJA said, it should just be standard to have one after 30 weeks.

I choose to have no scans at all. I do get things can go wrong but at the same time the one thing my body was made for was to make babies/grow them.

I am 31 and when I was born NO one had a single scan done in area. My sister is 5 years younger and same thing. My Mom only knew of one bad outcome among all her friends and that was because Mother got Chicken Pox for the first time while pregnant and her baby was blind and had some delays.

I agree there should be a third trimester scan. I had weekly scans from 28 weeks with dd2, after my fundal height measured behind. This flagged up low fluid and her measuring well behind.

I'm definitely paying for some private ones. Getting one at 26 weeks, then I think I'll get another 32 weeks or so.

We have one at 8 weeks and then one between 19-22, that's all. I get a private 3D around 30 weeks and the sonographer contacts your doctor if she sees an issue but its not uncommon to only get a couple and none after twenty weeks..at least where I live.

I had one at 8 weeks, a quick gender peek at 16 weeks, and then my anatomy scan today, and will have one more in third trimester to check position/fluid/etc.

It makes me nervous thinking that the 20 week scan is seen as the last.

I agree that it feels strange. It's a whole half of your pregnancy. Second babies it seems get even less midwife appointments and attention. I saw a midwife at 16 weeks, had the 20 week scan, then wasnt booked again to see anyone (midwife) until 28 weeks. That's a couple of months with no scans, but actually no general checks either!

I rang up and booked one this week (25 weeks) as I need the MATB form for work, but secretly hoping to cash in on a bit of a check over too at least.

This worries me also as like you said its a long time to not actually check everything is ok. I am paying for a private well being scan at 28 weeks where they look at fluid, development and the placenta. It's expensive but reassuring I think xx

I'll be booking a private 4D at 28 weeks. Mainly for the 4D though. I'm the kind of person who would worry more about more scans haha. I'm all nice and happy, till I have a scan approaching then I turn into a bag of nerves. I have my 20 weeks tomorrow, and I am absolutely terrified right now. My heart couldn't cope with any more haha

Things are more likely to go wrong if you don't have scans. Yeah your mother might not have known anyone who had something go wrong, but the fact is (and it is a fact) that more babies are surviving now because of scans and things CAN be picked up on that couldn't be before. If you choose to have no scans that is up to you obviously but I hope you could live with your decision if something went wrong that could have been prevented.

I agree one at or after 30 weeks would be really re-assuring. I think I'll spring for a private one around 32 weeks just to put my mind at east, esp with history of having low fluid.

I know I can as not many things would I have a c section for/get induced(which really if something is wrong I lean more towards it would need to be a Csection but putting both there). Let us not forget the scans that are ok and baby comes out with issues or the scans that show issue(how many first tri NT US scans that are off and need further testing) and come to find out baby is fine. Estimated birth weight REALLY comes to mind when they pull out a "huge" baby to find out it is a lot smaller. Or an IUGR baby that goes unnoticed.

Anyway, OP-just make sure you look into the place far as reviews and even ask Dr if they have a preferred place you go for the additional scan as sadly not all are good places. And if they know your doing it they will most likely want to see the results especially with the history of issue.

with my first I had a scan at 20 weeks and wouldn't have had another one but I was overdue with him so I had another one at 40w5d.

This one I was surprised to have one at 8w4d (my dating scan) and then when I had my appointment two weeks ago I was told I wouldn't have my next scan until 24-28 weeks. I was surprised at that too. I was so hoping to have a scan this week.

I am 15+6 with twins and as it is a multiples pregnancy I am lucky that I get scans every fortnight after my 21 week scan which I am really happy about as otherwise I would feel better having another scan between 21 weeks and birth. However I am finding it hard getting through the 2nd trimester at the moment as I am really uneasy with waiting another 5 weeks until my next scan as I feel it is a bit too long, especially as if (heaven forbid) something was to go wrong during this time it is before viability. I had regular scans until 14 weeks due to spotting on and off but now it has all 'gone quiet' and I am 2 weeks into a 7 week wait until my next one :( .

I can't afford a private scan but I am seriously considering using my credit card to pay for one and then pay it off.

I'm taking part in research project so I get another scan at 34 weeks
