okay so i was put on metformin 4 days ago and it is KILLING me. i literally cant eat anything without getting wrecked. i cant even smell food without wanting to puke. i was told this is normal but i dont know, i want to stick it out, because i think even after 4 days im losing weight but im so sick i cant even do housework let alone work out. my stomach feels like it has run a marathon then got beat up in a back alley!

i am a vegan so ive really had to adjust my diet, pretty much the only solid protien i can eat is tofu and nuts, and at this point but i cant even look at that. I LOVE FOOD! this is torture!!! i cried yesterday to my husband about it, i felt like such a dork.

someone tell me itll get better and that this is normal! please share your metformin stories here!!!

What dosage are you on? It is best to start on 500 mg and increase your dosage every few weeks until you are on your prescribed dosage. What what your eating as well as some foods can make the tummy worse to start with (lettuce was one on my trigger foods), check google you will find other common trigger foods. Always have your tablets with a meal.
I know it is hard but try and stick with it, normally the illness will just stop one day, after a few days of coping on the dose you up it to the next tablet!
If after a few weeks you are still not getting on with the tablets you can ask your doctor for the metformin slow release version but your dOc won't give you them until you have given the normal ones a good go because the slow release ones are so much more expensive!
