Hi, my little one was sick in bed yesterday morning and brought up the night before's dinner. He hasn't been sick since and is his usual happy self but his poo is more yellow than normal and looser but not too runny (like peanut butter - apologies if TMI). Not sure if this is normal. He is breastfed and eating solids and it smells more like breastfed poo than it has lately (strong, yeasty smell). I'm not sure if he was actually just a but constipated before and this is normal? I wouldn't normally worry but he has settling in days to do at nursery and am worried he won't be allowed in. I am back at work next week. Just after some advice on whether his bowel movements sound normal or like he may have a bug? He is 8 months and his sisters poo was always like this but they were always sending her home telling me the stools were "loose". I think it's just so difficult to tell when they're breastfed?

Any chance he's teething? This is exactly what my daughter was like, also got bad nappy rash from the poos when she was around that age and teething.

Thanks - Could be. But the good news is he has only been once today so hoping if it was a bug it has passed and he can go for his settling in session at nursery tomorrow.

Mine's poop is ALWAYS like peanut butter - LOs at this age shouldn't be having proper formed poops - firmer and thicker than the yellow runny breastfed poop certainly, but shaped - such as a nugget or sausage shape - usually indicates that it is a bit too hard. Was your LO having these prior to this occurring?

When they start solids, they often get a little constipated - that doesn't always mean that they won't go every day. It can just mean that their stools can be a bit hard and large for a very small bottom.

Mine had these for at least a good four months after starting solids, but one day, they just turned to thick peanut butter, as you are describing, and have been the same way ever since. She used to get little tiny splits around her bottom - it never seemed to bother her much - but this doesn't happen any more, so I know now that they were too hard before.

Bit gross but if you Google toddler poop and constipation, it should give you some idea of what is ideal.
