I'm EBF my LO and now 3 months postpartum. I'm noticing I'm losing crazy amounts of hair lately and wondering if its the breast feeding. I'm trying to eat right and get rest whenever I can, but its hard..i have a very high needs baby and def feel depleted. I'm continuing to take my prenatals so idk . Anyone else exp. hair loss during BF?? Advice please..

I'm 4 months PP and started losing hair at 3 mos. now at 4 months I still fill the shower drain with hair! I also EBF. I think som hormonal changes happen at 3 months that cause this. But it seems normal!

Oh yes def! Totally normal!:-):-) around six to seven months i think it normalized again:-) you lose less hair during preg...and when your hormones change back you lose the extra hair:-)

Totally normal! I bottle feed and lost loads of hair, it's now all growing back I have a weird fringe thing going on!

4 months pp here and EBF and for last few weeks been losing loads! Keep finding strands everywhere! Yuk! Feels like if it carries on at this rate I will be bald! Hope it stops soon!

So is the hair loss a result of BF or just related to post-partum hormonal changes?

In my last pregnancy I started to loose my hair around 3 months it was around my hair line mostly. It stopped shedding about 8 months pp and now my little guy is 13 months I have weird tuffs of hair all around my hair line because it's growing back. I gad to take my fringe further back too because of the hair loss

Exactly..I'm so scared ..as it was I was already loosing lots of hair even before baby. Maybe because I love washing my hair everyday..i know I shouldn't. That's gonna have to stop now. OMG...what to do?!.

Have you ever used dry shampoo? It could be a good alternative to washing every day.

I know this is an older thread but have been searching around to see if anyone else was experiencing hair loss postpartum. Mine started a few weeks back, my LO is 20 weeks today. I thought it was related to my thyroid (I am hyperthyroid/graves disease) but was checked out and my levels are fine. My doctor told me to follow up with my obgyn since she believes is all postpartum hair loss.

From everything I have read up on, its all completely normal and will eventually stop but its the worst from months 3-6. I had fine thin hair to start off with and have noticed patches of hair that look completely gone. I am doing my best to only wash my hair every other day and not tug on it with a round brush but rather just do a quick blow dry and curl the ends instead. I used to straighten mine daily but that just makes the spot show up even more.

Since this thread is a bit older, has anyone seen any improvement? I am trying to see when things will get better as I feel depressed with this hair loss.

Thanks ladies!

I just posted a topic about this with my picture added! I have bald spots because of the hair loss. And it comes out in clumps!!! Totally normal from what in told!

I can't remember exactly but i think my lo was just over 6 months when i noticed the hairloss slowing and now its back to normal and i have new hair growing under my fringe.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but is the norm about 6 months for the hairloss to slow/stop? I'm probably going to chop my hair to my shoulders or a little shorter. Right now my hair is very, very long and I think it makes the hairloss more dramatic. :( Ugh...hating this!!!

they say it can take up to a year to go back to normal. 5 months pp and mines still falling out but it has never fallen out in huge clumps for me luckily
