I'll be 36 weeks Tuesday, and for the past couple of days I've been losing A LOT of mucus plug.. I mean, everytime I go to the loo and wipe, there's big chunks. I've been seeing bits since about 30 weeks, but never this much, and never so frequently. There's no blood, but it's definitely not normal discharge. Is this a sign labour is near? Should I be concerned? X

Have you told your OB? With DS1 I lost mucous plug on a Monday (34 weeks) and they had me on hospital bed rest while they gave steroid injections and monitored me. I was having terrible back pain which ended up being contractions on my back. I was diating and they ended up breaking my waters on the Friday (just on 35 weeks).

My mucous plus was blood tinged though and gave out in s glob (sorry tmi)!

I would go get checked out for sure xx

Go and get checked out, even if it's nothing.

Mine was blood tinged but you know how my trip went xxx

I've always started losing my plug that early and delivered term babies (38+3, 39+4 and 39+4). It is worth telling your practitioner, although most won't intervene at 36 weeks.

I lost mine too, but I heard it varies on when you will deliver after plug goes. Atleast by a few weeks.

Like PP said, most doctors won't intervene at your gestation, even if you do go into labor, because babies born 36+ weeks tend to do fine. But unless you see blood, you may still have several weeks left to cook that baby. I always tend to lose plug for a few weeks before labor. :hugs:

I lost a big glob of mine at 36+1 and it had blood in it. My doctor didn't even flinch when I told her. I'm 38+2!now and I started losing more smaller pieces last evening. So obviously I'm one where it doesn't mean labor is soon. I would call if you are worried or don't feel right. That's what they are there for.

Your doc might just check your cervix as all it indicates is that you are beginning to dilate. Could be a few weeks at a few cm before active labor starts up for ya. GL :flow:

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow, so I'll mention it then. I've not had any pains, and I haven't lost anymore for a couple of days.. I don't know if that's because it's all come away though? I've not seen any blood, so I'm not too concerned.. I think it's probably just my body getting ready for labour! Baby is moving really well etc, as usual.

Thank you for all of your replies, I will update with what the midwife says tomorrow. :) xx

I started losing mine at 35 weeks with DD but still went to 39 weeks when I was induced. From what I've heard it just means your starting to progress and dilate. Some women lose it and go right into labor, some lose it weeks before. My dr also said at 36 weeks they will not stop you from going into labor.

Appointment went well, thank you for asking! :D Midwife said it's normal to lose plug, so not to worry unless my waters go.. Baby's fully engaged though, so that's good! :) also had some contractions last night, but they eased off eventually.. She's staying put for now! Xx

Glad everything is ok! Little miss is teasing us!!! xxx

withMy second baby I lost my plug in the morning and delivered that evening, I was bang on 39+6, with number 3 I lost my plug at 37 weeks and he was 2 days late! i'll wait and see with baby number 4!!

Sorry for the TMI pic, but I've just had this.. Now there's a bit of blood, should I be more concerned? xx

Mine was quite snotty and had blood streaked through it when I lost a bit of mine, can't tell from your pic. I would ring your MW and see what she says, just to be safe! xxx
