Hello All,

This is my first time in the LTTTC thread. I've frequently visited the TTC thread but I figured it's time to accept that this is a long-term journey for me and my Mr. I'm 24 and OH is 26. We've been TTC for about 16 months. I've recently been referred to a fertility clinic and I'm going for an HSG test next week. Has anyone had experience with those tests? I'm a little nervous.

I was also told that if everything goes alright with the test I will be starting clomid for my next cycle. Can anyone out there give me a bit of background info as to what clomid does? Will it help someone like me who has unexplained fertility problems? I'm quite sure that I do ovulate just not regularly.

Thanks for any info!

Hi hun - welcome!

I have an hsg booked too - some people say it hurts others say its fine fx it dosen't!!!!

As for clomid i hear it helps people who ovulate alone - its prescribed regually for that and i've seen some great results on here! I don't O alone sadly :( Clomid basically tricks your brain into releasing more fsh hormone which is what makes your follies grow and then release an egg.

Hope this helps xx

I have had the hsg done twice and I found it fine. Bit more embarrassing then anything. I was also very nervous beforehand but the thought is worse then it is. I had no pain and I just had light spotting afterwards.

Good luck ladies x

Hi Ladies :hi:

I have had a HSG done and found it completely painless. I worked myself up so much reading about how painful it was etc, but it was nothing at all. I took 800mg of ibuprofen (which is actually 4 standard tablets and is safe to take as long as you are not allergic to it)

I honestly didn't feel anything uncomfortable at all. It was a little embarrassing as there are quite a few people in the room, but just remind yourself they do hundreds of these scans every week and they are used to it.
Clomid supports ovulation and boosts it. If you ovulate already the clomid will help drive ovulation and make a stronger egg. You may produce more than one strong egg as well, increasing the odds of at least one of them getting fertilised.
I find that clomid gives me a longer luteal phase and higher progesterone as well, both due to the stronger ovulation. After 2 years ttc with unexplained i did get pregnant on clomid but unfortunately had an early miscarriage, i am now taking 3 more months on clomid hoping to fall pregnant again.
Good luck ladies x

Thanks for all the replies ladies! Bea1986 I'm sorry to hear about your MC. I have my fingers crossed that this round of clomid will be the one for you!
I'm actually having a really terrible day today. Sometimes it just hits me that this sucks a lot, especially since there's no explanation so far. I'm glad to hear that the HSG wasn't painful for anyone though. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting some answers!
