Recently discovered my 11 week old has a cow milk protein intolerance. Mucousy poop with the occasional couple drops of blood, overeating because her belly hurt so bad, reflux, hiccups many many times a day, very dry/flaky skin, crying and screaming for hours a day, etc. So I stopped pumping and switched her to Nutramigen. She is a COMPLETELY different baby! So so happy. She cries for maybe 5-10 minutes a day now as opposed to hours and hours. And never screams anymore.

But she spits up SO much! When she was on straight formula she was spitting up pretty much projectile into the floor. She's always been a spitter, but it was much much less. Now we have her on a 50/50 breastmilk and formula mix with plans to go to 25/75 next week and full formula the week after. Even on the 50/50 she still spits up a lot. Not as forceful or as much as on the straight formula, but still a lot. We have to change her clothes, bibs and burp cloths 3-5 times a day!

I'm wondering if it's just the Nutramigen? Or if it's the powdered formula and maybe she would do better on the liquid? Or if her belly just needs time to adjust (it's only been 2 full days)? Or if this is just how it's going to be from now on?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Have you tried burping after every ounce or so? That helped reduce the spit up with DD when she was still tiny. Or maybe a different bottle? :flower:

We've tried burping her often during a feed or waiting until the end. It all ends up with about the same amount. She doesn't burp and then spit up. Some bottles she doesn't burp as we put gas drops on the bottles (spits up with or without the drops) but still spits up a ton.

She won't take any other bottles. I don't think it's the bottle as it's what she's always been using and only started the bad spitting up with the formula.

We've been through the exact same thing! I could have written your post. We've changed to dr Browns bottles, which was amazing, but we've also added gaviscon & it's helped no end!! The only problem we have now is that when he was taking smsller bottles (4-6oz) one sachet did the trick. Now he wants more so we make up a 7oz bottle which dilutes the gaviscon too much and we're back to square one. Sigh. Hopefully we can increase to 2 sachets a day, but unfortunately he feeds 7 times a day & can only have gaviscon 6 times a day :(

We were more to similac ailment up and then to elevate and she spit up so much on all 3 that she stopped gaining weight. So I started making my own goat milk formula and she has been so much better and is off reflux meds!

We tried different bottles and burping every ounce and gas drops and smaller feeds, everything. Didn't matter she still spit up. This formula is so much better for her.

Aw, I'm so happy you managed to get her sorted! How do you make your own formula?

DS was doing so well & then we seem to have hit the second 'leap' or developmental phase.. So today has been hell. I hope that's all it is! And he'll be more settled once it's over

We have a recipe we found from Mt Capra. We don't use mt Capra goat milk we use meyenberg fat free goat milk as it has added folic acid and other vitamins mt Capra doesn't have. It's the powdered goat milk, turbiando sugar, coconut and olive oil, molasses and a multivitamin drops and dha drops. Takes 5-10 minutes a night. It's not bad at all. Had her 4 month appointment today and her doctor was very supportive of it. Just asked what's in it to make sure it has everything she needs and once I explained it she said it sounded nutritionally complete to her. She gained a pound on it!! Much better as she stopped gaining weight on the Elecare because she was spitting up so damn much!
