Love the name Mya - spelling tho?

I'd spell it Mya.

Mia is pronounced Mee-a
Maya/Maia is a completely different name, pronounced May-a

I used to be a teacher and saw so many children get annoyed with how people got their names wrong!

Sorry, you are wrong on this. Maya and Maia are pronounced My-a. Not May-a like Mayo. lol I dunno where you got that from.

Each to their own.. if you want to be constantly correcting people then fine. But I'm not wrong - I also have friends with children called Mia (me-a) and Maia and they are all pronounced differently.

I have a friend with a daughter named Mia and its pronounced Me-uh.. (like Mia Hamm the US soccer player) I also have a friend Mya pronounced My-uh and a friend Nya pronounced Ny-uh... & I don't recall anyone ever mispronouncing their names. I think that Maya/Maia could work but you still may get some people mispronouncing it as most would say it as it looks if they didn't know..IYKWIM?

Although my OH says that people should know to say Maya like My-uh because of the Mayans. haha

Definitely Maya or Mya. I think once you throw an 'i' in there, there's potential to pronounce it differently.

For people thinking Maya is pronounced May-uh:

Is Maya Angelou called May-uh Angelou? I think not. Whoever is pronouncing it that way is, in fact, wrong. lol So whatever. Continue thinking what you wish.

See, I'd never pronounce Maya as May-uh, but Maia I could see getting confused. Hm.

Same here. I have never known a Maya that was pronounced like that but maybe it's just me. And I would definitely be confused with Maia too....

I think the way you have it spelt would avoid people pronouncing it wrongly although that way may lead to your daughter having to spell it out, I see it spelt more like Mia but then this would probably lead to more people pronouncing it as me-a.

Maybe it's a location thing coz I would def pronounce Maya as May-a and my husband and sisters did when I asked them how they would pronounce it xx

In my post I was just trying to point out the potential that people could pronounce it wrong.. I personally would pronounce Maya as My-uh, and apparently so would my hubby.. but since others on here were confused as to the way its pronounced, it shows the potential it has to be mispronounced as May-uh.. if that makes sense?

My daughters name is Ria and each birthday she gets cards addressed to Rea, Rhea, Reha amongst others so I guess Mia would be the same... I personaly went for the spelling Ria as I wanted it to be easy for her to spell when she started pre school lol x

It's sooo hard there are so many opinions I think unless we just spell it Mya there will always be some confusion over the pronouncing of her name.

Such a shame that (me personally thinks) Mya doesn't look good on paper!! I don't think it's pretty written, totally not girly! BUT I love the name haha

Thanks for helping ladies :) And your partners hehe
