Hello ladies

Please could anyone advise what it means by having a low AMH? I had the test done and it came back at 2.2. The clinic said that this was classed as low fertility. I am only 34 and have been ttc for 3 years. I get ovulation symptoms every month but according to my 21 day progesterone test it came back showing I don't ovulate! (Not sure as symptoms every month and a regular 28 day cycle).

We are now thinking about IVF but does this AMH low fertility mean IVF is out as well?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Slowly going out of my mind.

Thanks

Lauren:cry:

Hi Laurena,

Please don't panic. Yes, on paper it may be a bit on the low side but its all about quality, not quantity. The AMH test is not always spot on and please don't think that you won't conceive naturally as you still can. It might just take you a little longer.
There are ladies with lower AMH who conceived naturally so there's always a chance. Also IVF is very do-able but hopefully you won't need that.
Has your partner had a sperm analysis??

Xxxxx. :hugs:

Hi Laurena

I was told last month I had an amh of 1 (uk scale) and was devastated ... however I have since read many stories of women falling pregnant with low amh. I think you just have to be lucky/ determined! I had to go in for an antral follicle count yesterday and they found 5 follicles (cd3) which is just enough to go ahead with ivf, although they say I might respond poorly to the ivf stimulants. Have you been offered an AFC?

Hi! I just wanted to offer support. I'm around your age and I've never skipped a period, and I was shocked to learn about my low amh. :( First, have you checked your vitamin D levels? Mine are normal so my low amh was accurate, but a vitamin D deficiency is the main thing I've read about that can cause an artificially low amh test result. I also read a study linking depressed amh results with taking the test too soon after going off the pill. Assuming the number is correct, I think FSH and AFC tests can help give a fuller picture if your ovarian reserve. I'm so sad every time I read about a young woman going through this. It's just devastating. Unfortunately I've found most articles to be conflicting and confusing, especially when it comes to the impact of low amh on conceiving naturally versus predicting response to stims. I'm really surprised at the suggestion you're not ovulating. I know anovulatory cycles do happen but I've read it's very, very rare - practically impossible according to some doctors' blogs - for a woman to have consistent cycles and not ovulate at all. Do you have other signs of ovulation, like positive OPKs or ewcm? Good luck!

Thanks so much for all your replies and support.

I really am getting less encouraged as time ticks on and feel like I am one foot in menopause already.

My husband has had a sperm analysis done and he is classed as borderline normal, but the clinic seem to think that's fine.

I had an antral folicle count and I was told that they found 4 on one side and 5 on the other, so 9 in total.

We aren't entitled to any free rounds of IVF because my husband has children from a previous relationship so we need to find about £6,000 if we wanted IVF.

I was absolutely positive I ovulated because from day 12-16 I have ovulation cramps, increased CM and I was using the Clearblue fertility monitor which always detected my peak, but still my 21 progesterone test came back with a reading of 28 on 100mg Clomid and my consultant said he likes to see 29 and over to indicate ovulation.

What's wrong with my body!! LOL

:(

You may want to look into femara instead of clomid. There are a lot of success stories using femara when women are clomid resistant. Have you thought about IUIs instead of IVF? That may be a possibility if they can get you ovulating.

Hi,

My AMH is 1.29 ng/ml (Germany) and I am 33 years old. My dr. told me it's on the low side. In USA anything above 1 ng/ml consider normal. FSH, estradiol tests are also important messages about your eggs. All my other hormone tests are perfect, I ovulate every month. It is all about your age. Younger you are, better quality of eggs you have. Some older women have higher than my AMH, but they have lower implantation success.
For egg donors firtility specialists want to see AMF 1.5 ng/ml.
If you have 7 Antral follicles on your ovaries, you are perfect!
My problem is egg doesn't meet sperm, possible because of appendix surgery. I am doing saline sonogram this month.
I suggest doing IUI first too! Less invasive and because you ovulate on your own.
Thank you for your time!
Baby dust to all!
