So I went to my doctors appointment today with my OB and she went over my results from my 20 weeks ultrasound on August 19th. Well the sonographer told me that I had an anterior placenta, which made sense since I wasn't feeling my little guy too much at the time. Well my OB asks me if my other doctor went over my results with me, which I replied no. So it turns out that my placenta is literally 1cm away from my cervix. Well it scared the crap out me, I know what placenta previa is. She said there is a good chance that the placenta will move as the baby grows. But there could be a chance of a c-section. So I have to have another ultrasound next Monday to check on the placenta, and because the last sonographer didn`t get a good look at the little guys face. I`m excited to get another ultrasound (hopefully more clear than the last one, it kinda sucked), but I am nervous about the position of my placenta. Anyone else have this problem.

my friend had this same as you picked up on 20 week scan , hers just moved enough last few weeks , so 33/34 ish and she is able to have a normal birth now

i was told this also at my 16 week scan, but ive had it in all my pregnancies (this is my 4th baby) and for me it has always moved out the way in time for delivery...im sure it will be the same for you, i'll find out on the 28th sept if mine has moved any but in the mean time please dont stress yourself out too much about it, i think its actually quite common :hugs:

Yes ! I got told the EXACT same thing at my ultrasound 2 weeks ago. My doc told me a while ago that my placenta was anterior (first time in 4 pregnancies). The tech asked if he'd ever mentioned placenta previa before and I said 'no'. She said it wasn't covering the cervix, but it's on the edge.

I've got an appt tomorrow with my doc, so I'm going to ask him then. I have to repeat the us in 2 weeks because they couldn't see everything, apparently because of the placenta and because I was only 17 weeks (why did they make me come in then???)

I'm a little scared of the previa, but hoping that it will move in the next few weeks. I have to have a csection anyway, so that doesn't worry me.

i got told at my 16 week scan too, & expect i will at my 20 week scan, i dont care if i have a natural birth or c-section, just as long as were both fine, thats all that matters to me :)

I have the same, was told by my family doctor that if the placenta doesn't move up I would have no choice but to have a c-section. When I saw my OB last week he said that it is not the same as placenta previa and that it isn't necessary to have a c-section, just that I would have to be monitored more closely for bleeding during child birth. I've heard that most of the time the placenta moves up

:hugs: mommyb - I am also going through this right now. I also have a low lying anterior placenta and there is a membrance attached to the placenta that is about 6mm away from my cervix. Please try not to worry as 90% of the time as you grow they move up. 2 of my close friends also were told this at their 20 week scans and by the time they had their follow up they had moved. I wonder why you are going for your follow up already though - they are not seeing me again until 28 weeks.

I have been told by my obgyn that I have a low lying placenta since week 7. Now at week 14, it's still low. Am going back in a month to check again.

The good news is, your doc detected it at 2nd tri. If one gets this only at 3rd tri, then it's something of concern.

The placenta should stretch and move upwards as weeks go by. If it doesn't, you'll need to be cautious and take things easy until you deliver.

Hey lovealittle, she also wanted me to go back next week because my previous ultrasound they didn't get to see my son's face. During the 20 week ultrasound they check for a cleft pallette, but because they couldn't see his, they couldn't check. So that is another reason I am going next week. She said I will also have another ultrasound too. I feel glad that they are taking care of me, but I still worry about the placenta. At least my little guy is doing good, he was kicking the doppler at my appointment today. Oh and it also sounds like he might be make his appearance in December, which excites me as well. Maybe you can ask for an ultrasound at a sooner date?

Ah I see. That is great that they are taking such good care of you. We had a bad experience at our scan so we are going for a private scan on Monday and I am so excited for it then we will just wait until the 28 week follow up one. I saw my dr today and he basically reassured me that it is no big deal and it will move so I hope he is right! Take care xxx

Hi,
I got told i had this aswell at my 20 week scan, had it checked with both a full & empty bladder just to make sure & it was still low lying. Am booked in at the end of october when im 32 weeks for another scan to see if it has moved up, if not they want to arrange to section me.
