My DH and I have just begun to see a fertility specialist. I just received word that the results of my blood test indicated a low ovarian reserve for my age. I am completely crushed. We don't have our first consultation until Tuesday and everything I've been googling about it is not good. IVF is completely out of the question for us for personal and religious reasons. I don't know if I'll ever be able to hold my own baby.

I'm assuming by your tests you mean the FSH CD 3 test? I actually had an elevated blood level when I had the FSH test done the first time but ultrasound confirmed that my reserves are good shape and that they are plenty of reserves.

I'm sure your fertility doctor knows what he or she is talking about but it might be worth looking into getting an ultrasound to see what you're dealing with!

No I actually go in for my cd3 blood draw tomorrow. My first blood draw was at my preconsultation exam which happened to be cd10. The nurse left me a voicemail and I didn't really understand what hormone I was deficient on.

I could be wrong but from memory, I think the only tests that can truly tell if your reserves are low are FSH CD 3 and the AMH (anti-mullerian hormone).

I personally would be panicked if I was told there was a possibility my ovarian reserve was low so I understand what you must be going through right now. I would definitely ask for the FSH CD 3 test and ultrasound to count the follicles and see what you're looking at.

Also, I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong about this but I don't think you necessarily need to do IVF with low ovarian reserve. I think they can probably still try to stimulate your ovaries using the medications and then try an IUI. Your fertility doctor should lay out all of your options for you and the percentage rates of success! Good luck!

Thank you J! Your words are definitely a relief. The nurse told me to come in tomorrow for the day 3 blood draw and said they will have those results back before the consultation. I knew that there had to have been something wrong with NY body but this is still kind of a shock.

Nurse called me back and said my AMH was 0.8 which isn't horribly they low, because they said they want it above 1. I guess I will just be waiting for the rest of the results so they can put together the full of picture.

I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be to get this news. I know you say IVF is out of the question for you because of personal/religious reasons. Maybe you should look into naprotechnology. Naprotechnology is a catholic approved alternative to IVF. It is science based and is not very common in the US, but I believe a lot of people us it in the UK.

I was trying naprotechnology before I turned to IVF. Napro has good success rates, but it DOES take time to try and figure out the problem. (Which I don't have the months to put into).

You can just google naprotechnolgy and it will take you to the website (I am not sure if I am allowed to post the link to the website).

Was diagnosed w low amh (also 0.8) at 28 years old. DHEA helped my reserves tremendously....actually took my amh to 2.something. my antral follicle count with an amh of .8 was still 12, which is not bad at all, but after DHEA, it went up to 22. It still took 4 rounds of ivf to conceive my son, but it ended up being bc I had inflammation in my uterus, which they didnt know about. I ended up going gluten free, which got rid of the inflammation, and conceived on the very next round of ivf. We were never sure if the inflammation was truly the problem, or the low amh, UNTIL....I stayed gluten free and got pregnant w baby #2 on our very first month trying...just having sex...no drugs (not even dhea)..no fertility treatmeants..nothing! At 32 years old...so 4 years after that low amh result. So it may be even lower now. But apparently the low amh didn't stop me from conceiving!! I am sure you'll hold your own baby!! Sorry if this sounds choppy..it's a very short version of a very long story!

Thank you ladies!
Ashley, my mom had done some research and sent me to the NaProTechnology website. I thought the website was kind of confusing and didn't really say what they did so I didn't really dig much further into it. I will look at some other websites though :)

LadyLovenox, thanks for sharing your story :) I will have to look into DHEA. I didn't realize that the number could go up. I guess there is hope after all :) :) I would love to hear the long version some time, have you written about it in another thread?

I guess in a way I am sort of relieved that there is something "wrong," because we have been NTNP for almost 4 years and I really felt we would have had a baby or two by now. Having a definitive diagnosis that is treatable is somewhat comforting.

I am 30 years old. We have been TTC for 18 months. HSG normal, husband normal, I ovulate every month, I have pretty normal menstrual cycles (27-30 days). I have never had a positive pregnancy test :(. We recently got unfortunate news that I have low ovarian reserve. My FSH was 14 and AMH is 0.92. I am heartbroken. Has anyone had a successful healthy pregnancy that had similar situation as I? Is anyone going through this with me?

KHope2018 - I am sorry. From what I have read acupuncture might improve ovarian reserve. However, in most cases of diminished ovarian reserve IVF DE is recommended

Hey there, don' get too discouraged. When I was 23 my AMH was 0.95. I always produced a decent amount of eggs. However, if there is any advice I could give you, I would do IVF before all the other treatments (IUIs, PO pills, Injections) I wasted so much time with all that when I could have just done IVF or FET and been good. But your not out of the woods by any means. I have twin boys and pregnant with a girl and one still frozen. Dont hesitate to ask me any questions.
