Good Evening Girls...

I've had a good pregnancy apart from one thing, a low platelet count. Your platelet count should be between 150 and 400 I think and right from my booking appointment my count has been low but not drastically. It has always been between 141 and 123 being the owest. I have seen consultants due to this and have been told as long as it stays above 80 I could have an epidural and should have a normal labour.

Today I had my 38 week appointment and they have come down to 107 which surprised me as that's the lowest they've been! I saw a different doctor today and she mentioned that there is a chance I could have passed this on to baby too so she might also have a low platelet count... This has never been mentioned before so until now my main worry was that I'd lose too much blood during delivery. Now I'm worried about baby too!

Does anyone have any experience of this??

Thanks in advance, feel like I've rambled a bit!

xx

Hi, i've got platelet levels too - the last time i was tested was 12 weeks (now 20 weeks) and they were 118, but the midwife says they generally get lower as pregnancy progresses so god knows what they'll be at 38 weeks. She also told me there is no harm to the baby, and even if I do bleed, the only outcome of this will be a blood transfusion. I was also advised I wouldn't be able to have an epidural so it would be interesting to know whether you are allowed one for sure. :-)

Mine was low at my 28 weeks bloods, but they had me retest and I went above 150 by 32 weeks. There's a thread somewhere on here about it. https://www.babyandbump.com/gestational-complications/203097-low-platelets.html
AFAIK one main risk is that they don't like to give epidurals.
