I am 15 weeks and I went today for my first prenatal massage, it was GREAT (my dr said i am clear to start prenatal massage and yoga at my appt last week so i took full advantage ASAP). It was so relaxing and great, but now about 4 hours later my lower back is hurting me. It did not hurt before and it has me really worried. The massage therapist was not overly rough, actually a little too gentle for my taste usually, and she used all the extra supports, pillows, had me on my side etc.

Could the massage have caused something to happen? Am i just having this pain because i am finally loosened up and I'm not used to that (she said i was very tense and tight). If anyone has any experience i would greatly appreciate it to help put my mind at ease, because of course I'm thinking something is totally wrong with the baby now...

No the massage didn't hurt baby! I'm always sore after prenatals, but I love that feeling!! I'm like-yes-she did a good job!!! Lol.

I would say this is a normal response. I was adjusted during my first pregnancy because relaxin was causing my pelvic bone to encroach on my tail bone. I have also had heat therapy done on my back after I had surgery once. It ALWAYS hurt that night but the improvement a coupled days later was worth it. No pain, no gain. That is what I told myself.

Now possibly a stupid question, but how is a prenatal massage different from a regular one? I have never had either but I could seriously go for something right now. Do you have to go some place special or just any massage place just tell them your pregnant? And does your doctor have to clear you for it, or was that a specific case? Because my midwife never said I couldn't get one, at least I don't think she did. :dohh:
Stupid pregnancy brain, I am pretty sure she said nothing.

Thanks ladies, I think I am just over worried, I already feel a little better this AM. Nariah a prenatal massage is basically a massage whee they take into consideration that you are pregnant. They support u with extra pillows, never have u flat on ur back, have you on you side when massaging the back etc. you do not have to be cleared by your dr to have one, I just had an appt last week and asked her bc I knew I would worry about every little thing (as obviously I am by this post!). Most spas offer some kind of prenatal massage and some require u to be out of ur first trimester, but that is more of a liability thing for them. There are also some medical massage places in my area that specialize in prenatal massage. So that is basically what a prenatal massage is if that answers ur question!

I'm scared to have one this time. I had one in my last pregnancy at 10am and by 2pm I was in labour! Luckily I was 37+5 because I had my son that day!

It may have been coincidence but its put me off having another one lol x
