LTTC - finally starting at the Fertility Clinic

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum but not new to TTC. My DH & I have been together since 2008 and have been trying for about 6 years. We are finally in the position to afford fertility treatments should they be needed. We contacted our GP and have an appointment with the local fertility clinic on August 1st. Can anyone tell us what we should expect at the first consult/appointment?

I'm very nervous about what may be said. We had an appointment with the same clinic 7 years ago and after that appointment we took a break for a while and decided it was too much to handle at the time. The results they gave me at that appointment have since been proven wrong (from scans for other things), so I'm terribly anxious about starting back up. Any pointers to help get thru this journey?

Feathers usually the first appointment is them setting up testing to find the problem. At least that's how it was at our first visit. Do you have any idea what might be causing your infertility?

We had success at the fertility clinic the first go around and are now going back to the fertility clinic on June 28th to start trying for baby number 2.... we did a SA before our referral and the results were way worse than 2 years ago :(

That's great that you're getting checked out! This first appt they will probably just take your medical history and book you in for all the standards tests for you (CD3 and CD21 blood, baseline ultrasound, saline ultrasound and/or HSG) and your DH (blood and semen analysis). The doctor didn't even examine me at our first appt. The only advice I have is to take it one day, one test at a time. Try not to overthink and guess as to what they're going to find. They should book you in for a follow-up appt after your initial testing is done, where they will review your results and make treatment recommendations if necessary. Good luck and fingers crossed that whatever it is is easily fixable.

Are you in Ontario? If you end up needing treatment and your clinic participates in the Ontario Fertility Program you can get IUIs and one cycle of IVF for free. That's what we're doing right now. Currently waiting to find out if IUI#2 worked.
