Hi ladies, we are currently trying for #2 and have been for the last year. We conceived our beautiful daughter after 4 years of trying and two rounds of ICSI. We have mf issues so didn't think conceiving again was going to be a walk in the park but we decided to just try and see what happens. Nothing has so we're kind of at the stage where we need to decide whether to have the treatment again. It's not a brilliant time for us to have to pay for the treatment and I'm worried about the effect it may have on DD.

Has anyone else been in a similar position and made a decision? Don't know if I can go through the heartache of doing the treatment again and it doesn't work.

Thanks in advance xx

Hi Tass, I will be watching your thread as we are thinking of ttc again after having ICSI to have our daughter (who is now nine months). We have severe mf and have been told that we cannot get pregnant without ICSI. I am very apprehensive about trying again. I have always wanted at least 3 children but I'm scared about going through the process again (cost, emotions, effect on DD and my relationship with DP) We were very lucky to get a positive on our first attempt and it feels a bit like we are trying to win the lottery for the second time (if you get what I mean).
:flower:

Hi, I definitely get what you mean!! I think we are going to have an initial consultation again to see what both our levels are then make a decision from there. I'll let you know what they say. Good luck hun x

Yeah, these decisions get much more complicated for #2. It took us 8 months to conceive our first, which is not long but definitely long enough to to worry there's a problem. If we hadn't gotten pregnant, I would have spared no expense to conceive.

But when you have a child, not only do you have to focus on how bad you want it but on the child you already have. We had to decide against IVF for #2 in our case for this reason. We are in the U.S. where the cost of IVF is out of this world unless you are one of the lucky few who are covered under insurance, about 20K per cycle. We could come up with the money, but the thing that stops me is that I don't think I could live with myself if I spent that kind of money and it didn't work. If it were more affordable here or if there was more of a guarantee of success it would be different.

Good luck on your decision. You're lucky you're in the U.K. where the costs are lower (though still not cheap). For me, I could deal with it if it were $6K per attempt, but at $20K I start thinking of all the things that could buy--nice wedding for dd, college tuition, etc.

Well we've made a step forward and DH is having sa tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get the results back next week and we can see what if brings. Not sure what it will make us decide either way but at least we may have more of an idea!x

good luck! I conceived #1 with the help of a fertility doctor, and went back to ttc #2.

Did you try any treatments for #2 lusterleaf or are you trying yourselves? Hope all goes well for you x

Hi Tass, no we went straight back to the fertility doctor, we did a medicated IUI. I am now in my 2ww

Good luck, I'll keep everything crossed for you lusterleaf!

Had the results, count was 9 million, 1.4ml and motility 27%, kinda similar to last time. Think I was just wishing for a miracle, really don't know how I feel about it x

Tass, is your hubby taking any supplements to improve his sperm?

No nothing, he is generally fit and well, exercises, doesn't smoke and not a big drinker, do you think some would help?x

I think it's definitely something to look into even if you do go forward with IVF/ICSI . We are dealing with suspected MF infertility as well but we are not able to afford IVF, so I have been doing a lot of reading on improving sperm through supplements and I'm really interested in hearing about others experiences with it.

There have been some really encouraging studies on the use of supplements on improving sperm quality. Some of the same supplements that help with egg health, like coq10 also help sperm quality and coincidentally our ability to absorb them goes down with age. There are also a lot of supplements that contain antioxidants that protect the sperm from damage.

Taking these supplements can also help in achieving success in IVF from what I understand. A lot of doctors don't do a lot in working to improve male sperm quality, but it seems that there is more that they could be doing in that regard.

Thank you, I've had a quick look on the web since you've said and there are done success stories out there. We've had a real roller coaster weekend trying to decide what to do and due to financial and emotional factors we've decided to try naturally for the rest of the year then maybe have ICSI again next year. I'd like to shift a bit of weight, so healthy lifestyle and supplements for DH can hopefully only help!!x

Well, a big break since my last post I know but we are finally going ahead with treatment!

We have our treatment planning appointment on Wednesday, aaarrgh can't believe we're starting all over again!!

Sorry to see you're still TTC but good news on continuing treatment! Hopefully you will get your bfp out of this.

Your thread just caught my eye. We did Clomid+IUI x5 to have our daughter and have sort of agreed to 'just see how things go' I really want a second one and he's more on the fence. I was okay with that plan for a while now I just had a little cry cause my period just showed up.

Hormones

Good luck with your treatment. We're really struggling to decide what to do about TTC #2 after having IVF for #1

Em xx

Its so hard fisher640, I think sometimes we resign ourselves to things subconsciously then what we really want just hits us from nowhere! And yes I agree hormones are a nightmare!!

Good luck whatever you decide, I hope it all works out for you xx
