Figure I'll write this now while I know she is down for the count for a minute.
So the night before she was born I went to bed around 9pm just like normal. I woke up about 11:30 and felt really wet while I was walking to the bathroom for pee break #21 million. I noticed light pink when I wiped and started to get super excited. I also started to have really really mild contractions.
We went ahead and called our doula and let her know that I think this is going to be it and then went to time my contractions. At about 4am I decided its about that time to head to the hospital and see what they say. My contractions at this point were manageable and I was just easing through them. I will never ever call them painful. I will call them intensity like I have never felt before.
I was 3cm at the hospital and by 6am I was 4-5cm (they couldn't decide) so I got transferred from triage to the delivery ward. I walked and walked the halls till about 11am when the doctor said I wasn't making progress and she wanted to start induction or break my waters. I refused both and told her to give me an hour or so. The doctor was not happy but agreed.
Came back in about an hour and a half and I still wasn't making any significant progress so I agreed to let her break my water.
Here is where shit hit the fan. My doula had me sit up in bed and then she raised the back support to a chair stance and I was to kneel over the back of the bed. My contractions started coming fast and fierce. About 1:30 I started feeling intense pressure and I relayed this to my doula who then relayed to the nurse. Nurse checked me and said I was 8 or 9 cm along!
She got the doctor who said I was only 6cm... to which the nurse asked her if she was checking the same patient that she just did. haha The doctor left, the nurse was pissed, so got the head nurse. At this point all I wanted to do was push. The head nurse checked me and agreed with the original nurse but said I was pushing through contractions and causing my cervix to swell. She said I had two options... epidural to stop me from pushing or she could try to move my cervix manually. I agreed to both.
At this point I had had no pain medications.
The delivery nurse went to call the epidural doctor and the other nurse started to try to move my cervix out of the way. I was told to push and she basically manually got it done. (didn't want to go into too much detail here to avoid scaring you haha) Just know that that HURTS. By the time the doctor got there to give me an epi I was well into pushing and didn't need it anymore.
Pushing is GLORIOUS. You get a nice break from contractions and the contractions don't hurt anymore since you are just focusing on pushing. I think I only pushed for about an hour?
I was terrified of the "ring of fire" but really, it wasn't THAT bad. She felt like a raw turkey was being slipped out of me.
Other than that, natural labor is NOT bad. I'd do it again if I were to want more kids!
Here she is the day of!
