I started seeing a fertility specialist acupuncturist today who's an expert in this field, and I told him I started adding Maca to my smoothies this cycle, and he said to wait until after ovulation because Maca helps with progesterone. Just thought I'd tell any of you interested in Maca! He also is having me stop the Vitex and start on some herbs. No caffeine or cold food or drinks. ugh. This will be tough.

Why did he say to stop the Vitex? I take it because I have irregular cycle, not really seen much of an improvement yet though.

Did he say why to stop vitex? was it because he had a different set of herbs to use, or something specifically about vitex? I'm interested.

Hi ladies,

He told me to stop the Vitex because the treatment he'll be giving me with needles plus the herbs he gave me (Yang Tonic) plus the rules (socks on my feet, no dairy, no caffeine, etc) will do the trick. He doesn't think my temps are high enough post-ov also, and says all this will cure that. I ovulate late so I've been taking Vitex last cycle and was just about to start for this cycle. I'm going to continue taking my B6/complex but going to stop the Vitex per his instructions. He just shook his head almost like Vitex is gibberish.. it was surprising. He also said eggs and avocados are excellent for CM by the way. And cucumbers and sweet potatoes (yams) are great for fertility health. He will only allow Dandelion Root Tea. So I'm going to drink that instead of coffee and hope I don't get caffeine headaches. Going to start on the Maca (little less than 1/2 teaspoon in a smoothie a day) right after ovulation.

So interesting! I've heard a lot of positives from Vitex, so I'm surprised about his reaction. And I may look into those foods. I do find some of the things (like socks on feet?!) odd, but whatever works for you, right?

It's definitely odd! I so agree! My husband thinks I'm INSANE! haha! The socks on feet is because (I think) if your feet are cold, your body is working on warming them and the energy/blood flow isn't focused on your uterus area. It's a circulation issue - the same artery that feeds the reproductive area also feeds the hands and feet, so if feet are cold, they're not getting enough circulation, and neither is the uterus. I live in CA and obviously right now in July I won't be wearing socks every day, but I will do my best when I am home. Also no caffeine because that makes your blood go to your head and he wants it in my uterus! Only warm water too... that one has been tough. Looking forward to starting back on Maca powder again after ovulation.

What's the dosage of maca he said to take? I'm going to try this when I ovulate.

Brit - I will ask him on Friday and get back to you. I am planning on taking just under 1/2 teaspoon in my smoothies once daily. Giving to DH already.
